The vibes at Capcom are truly immaculate these days, with three critically acclaimed titles released this year alone.
Before Pragmata and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Resident Evil Requiem kicked off 2026 with a massive bang in February, and it hasn’t really stopped banging at all ever since, according to new sales estimates.
Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliott is reporting that RE9 has passed $500 million in gross revenue, selling over 8.5 million copies combined across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam on PC. That’s a whole lot of gamers who had to choose between first and third person perspectives, shotgun or sniper rifle, and which Leon outfit to equip. And eventually, the game is set to surpass the Resident Evil 4 remake’s $600 million in sales.
And according to the data, the recent Resident Evil movie by Zach Cregger has only brought more eyes on Leon and the franchise in general. For example, sales for RE2, RE4, and Requiem all saw a bump since the movie launched, as has their player counts on Steam. But Capcom also smartly reduced the price of these games around the movie’s Sept. 18 launch, further driving interest in the franchise for its 30th anniversary.
It’s tough to give all the credit to Cregger or sales, though. Requiem is genuinely a fantastic game, and I scored it as such earlier this year. It’s probably still at or near the top of my game of the year list right now, despite several other awesome titles releasing since then.

The franchise really has no intention of slowing down, either. Story DLC for Requiem is in the works for release, a 10th mainline Resident Evil is assumed and likely in development, and Resident Evil: Veronica debuted earlier this year as another new remake entry due to launch in 2027.
With the movie racking up cash at the box office, too, it’s safe to say that the franchise’s 30th anniversary isn’t even close to becoming its last big one.
