One Piece: 7 Characters Who Will Change Sides In The Final War, Ranked

With the Final War of One Piece being closer than ever, the main forces going into this conflict are now clearer than ever. With many different pirate organizations vying to find the One Piece treasure for their own gains and the allies of the World Government seeking it to keep controlling the world, every major character from the series’ past is set to play a huge role here.

As such, most of these characters have very firm alliances going into this ultimate conflict in order to see the end to their own goals. However, there are some One Piece characters who most fans are convinced will change sides one way or another, so let’s take a look at who they may be and why.

St. Figarland Shamrock Is In An Interesting Place

Likelihood: Low

One of the most popular and beloved fan theories came true early on in the Elbaf arc, when it was confirmed that Shanks originally belonged to the Figarland family of Celestial Dragons and that he had an evil twin. This twin was eventually revealed to be Shamrock, who was now the Supreme Commander of the Gods’ Knights.

However, many made note of the fact that Shamrock was fairly composed, calm, and different compared to most other Celestial Dragons, prompting a new fan theory which states that he may actually be a good guy. Seeing Shanks and his journey in the world may have had an influence on Shamrock, perhaps even enough to make him change sides in the end.

Katakuri Already Showed Displeasure With Big Mom’s Rule

Likelihood: Medium

Charlotte Katakuri is Big Mom’s most powerful child and one of the few users of Conqueror’s Haki in the entire world. Although he was always Big Mom’s strongest enforcer, his true loyalty was to his family, and even at the end of his fight against Luffy, he showed displeasure at his mother’s rule, and only bowed out of the fight after Luffy promised to defeat her one day.

Because of this, almost every fan was ensured that Katakuri would eventually make his return in the Final War as one of Luffy’s most powerful allies. At the current moment, Big Mom is still missing, and Totto Land remains without a leader, so it’s quite likely that Katakuri will take control of these forces and join the Final War alongside Luffy.

Smoker Was Always Quite A Sensible Marine

Likelihood: Medium

Introduced quite early on in the series, Smoker has often been portrayed as Luffy’s main rival within the Marines, despite the fact that Luffy’s growth in strength has left him in the dust. Although he has always been chasing Straw Hat on the seas in the hope of eventually capturing him, his actions during the Alabasta and Marineford arcs have always portrayed him as being very sensible.

Although he does loathe pirates, he realizes that the world isn’t black and white, and that the World Government is just as capable of committing evil as some pirates are at doing good. Although Smoker is still a part of the Marines, most believe that this same philosophy will eventually make him change sides in the Final War.

Fujitora Has Already Spoken Back To Akainu

Likelihood: High

After One Piece’s time skip, Fujitora was enlisted into the Marines to fill in one of the vacant Admiral positions due to his incredible power. However, one thing that went unseen by the rest of the Navy was the fact that Fujitora is entirely unlike the rest of the Marines in the setting, in that he has a very strict and equal sense of justice for everyone, believing all innocents should be protected.

Although he did go against Luffy and the Straw Hats in the Dressrosa arc, he eventually went on to recognize the kind of person that Luffy was. This, paired with the fact that he has already clashed with Akainu and the World Government about the treatment of innocents, it’s very clear that Fujitora is likely going to switch sides in the Final War.

Koby May End Up Being Luffy’s Greatest Ally

Likelihood: High

Although he started off as being very cowardly and weak, Koby eventually underwent an incredible power-up during the time skip, where he went on to learn Haki and turned into Garp’s star pupil. Due to his disagreements with the way the World Government and Navy handled things at Marineford, he resigned to join SWORD with a bunch of others.

Due to this, Koby is already against the World Government in a sense, since SWORD operates independently. Due to largely wanting the same things as Luffy, as well as being his friend, Koby may be one of the most important figures in the Final War. Plus, there is also the possibility of him and Luffy teaming up to take out Blackbeard, just like how Roger and Garp did to Rocks.

Kuzan May Already Be A Double Agent

Likelihood: High

Right after the time skip, two Admiral spots in the Navy were vecated, one due to Akainu’s promotion to Fleet Admiral, and the other because of Aokiji’s resignation from the Marines. From there, he went on to join the Blackbeard Pirates as one of their Titanic Captains and the strongest member of the entire crew after Blackbeard himself.

However, this always rubbed fans very strangely and seemed incredibly uncharacteristic of someone with as much of a moral center as Kuzan. Because of this specifically, many fans believe that he is actually a double agent within the Blackbeard Pirates who had been working for SWORD this entire time, which is a very likely possibility to end up happening.

Garp Has The Possibility To Be Luffy’s Strongest Ally

Likelihood: High

Garp is the greatest Marine to ever live, and despite his disdain for the Celestial Dragons and his willingness to do whatever he wanted, his strength was so great that the World Government allowed him to carry on doing as he pleased due to how valuable of an asset he was. However, after the Summit War, he also resigned from the Navy.

Upon his capture by the Blackbeard Pirates, Garp hasn’t been seen for quite a while. Many believe that either Luffy or Dragon will save him from his captivity on Hachinosu, due to which he has an incredibly high likelihood of changing sides in the Final War despite his loyalty to the World Government.
