Lost Skies has left its early access release today, entering into its 1.0 version of the game. If you feel slightly surprised by that news, so do I, because it only launched into early access in April of this year, pretty much exactly five months ago. Every game will do early access differently of course, but it seems like Lost Skies could have done with a bit more time in the oven.
Developer Bossa Studios shared a little Steam news post just to say that the survival game is out, but they also put out another, separate post listing out some slightly annoying sounding known issues. For one, if you invite or join friends using Steam friends or the Steam overlay, your game might get stuck in an infinite loading screen.

If you switch between using a gamepad to a mouse and keyboard, the crafting menu also becomes unresponsive, but restarting the game apparently fixes this. And some quality settings don’t re-load on loading the game, so the team “strongly advise to check these settings when re-launching.” Some of these sound negligible, but others do sound a little rough for a full 1.0 launch.
In any case, there is some new stuff for 1.0 too! The map now has over 120 islands to journey across, up from 54. Cloud visuals have had an update too, and admittedly they do look very pretty, possibly the best looking thing in the game, which feels important when the entire setting is in the sky. The types of clouds change depending on the region too, which is a nice touch.
There is also a new form of smaller boss enemies called Arbiters (worth noting that another one of the game’s current issues is that you can’t fight them online unless the host of that session is in the same region). And ship progression has received a big overhaul so that any upgrades you make are a lot more effective. You can read about the other additions in yet another Steam post.
