After 8 Years, Gege Akutami Bids Farewell To Jujutsu Kaisen Forever With Final Release

Jujutsu Kaisen is a major shonen series hailing from Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The series’ massive success after its anime adaptation in 2021 by MAPPA Studio has made it a household name for the magazine. Sadly, Jujutsu Kaisen reached its manga conclusion in 2024, following the release of its final volume, JJK Volume 30.

While the manga itself has ended, Jujutsu Kaisen has been holding exhibitions with brand-new information revealed by the author that has never been seen before, including key lore and story-related updates. The last major Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition was held in 2024, and the final one is finally beginning on December 25, 2026. Gege Akutami is about to deliver new key information concerning the final volumes of the series, major plot developments, and new illustrations, with stunning art.

Jujutsu Kaisen has been going strong over the course of the last few years. It has become a manga juggernaut with over 150 million sales despite a very short run. Because of its massive success, it has become one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s most prized series, especially in the 2020s. With that being said, Gege Akutami concluded his story on September 30, 2024, with the release of chapter 271. Gege Akutami briefly returned with a sequel manga known as Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, but fans are still more curious about and dedicated to the original story and its cast of characters.

Luckily for fans, Jujutsu Kaisen has an upcoming event focused entirely on its original manga, that is, the newest Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition, referred to as “Jujutsu Kaisen Final Exhibition.” For context, Jujutsu Kaisen has been holding exhibitions over the last two years. These exhibitions showcase new series content by Gege Akutami. The last major Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition took place between July and August 2024, and revealed to us brand-new information about the series up to Volume 27. It especially focused on the Gojo versus Sukuna fight.

The new exhibition is set to open its doors on December 25, 2026, and it will reach its end on January 25, 2027. This exhibition is taking place in Tokyo, Japan, specifically in the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building. It is open for fans all around the world to visit with the purchase of a ticket. It must be noted that this exhibition is officially going to be the last in the series, so it’s definitely a must-see for any fans who can attend during the one-month period. There is definitely going to be major advertisement for this event leading up to Jump Festa 2027, which will take place on December 19, 2026. Jujutsu Kaisen is featured on the Super Jump Red Stage and is set to be the highlight of the event.

What to Expect From Jujutsu Kaisen’s Final Exhibition

While we don’t know exactly what will unfold at the final Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition, we do have an idea of what to expect, especially based on what we’ve seen previously from other Jujutsu Kaisen exhibitions. The last Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition, which took place two years ago, was an exciting ride. It featured brand-new content from Gege Akutami that we had never seen before. For example, new illustrations, as well as an extensive new Q&A, were revealed. In that regard, we expect something similar to come from the new December exhibition. So far, we have seen one of Gege’s new exhibition illustrations. This new one features Yuta Okkotsu alongside Rika in a stunning new composition.

Beyond the new art, the Q&A is what we’re all patiently waiting for. At the previous Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition, we received a ton of new lore through Gege that was never revealed or seen in the manga previously. For example, in the last exhibition, Gege revealed why Gojo lost his battle against Sukuna, pinning it down to lowering his guard and losing focus. We also learned the origin of Black Flash and Gege’s initial main characters for the series.

More exciting questions and answers will be featured in December’s exhibition, especially as the event focuses exclusively on Volumes 28, 29, and 30, which cover the finale of JJK. For context, these volumes take place after Gojo’s death and after the beginning of the final showdown against Sukuna, which sees all sorcerers unite in hopes of defeating the King of Curses. Sukuna is the biggest highlight of these last three volumes, but other characters like Yuji, Yuta, and Megumi will be huge and will definitely have some dedicated bits of information from Gege Akutami.

While unconfirmed at the moment, it’s also possible to see some Modulo content featured. As the new Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition is advertised as the final one, it’s unlikely for Modulo to get its own event later. Fans do have many questions about Modulo that need answering from Gege directly, especially concerning the ending.

The Next JJK Exhibition Will Be Gege’s Final Gift To Fans

Gege Akutami’s work, Jujutsu Kaisen, became more successful than anyone ever expected, having risen as one of the most successful shonen manga of all time and establishing a massive fanbase through its anime success. Despite its manga ending, the series still has tremendous potential. When it comes to the anime, it is currently still ongoing and nowhere near its end. In 2027, we will see the release of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4, with more seasons to come afterwards. Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, the sequel set 68 years after the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, will also likely be adapted into an anime eventually. After all, MAPPA has already created a short animated teaser for the release of its final volume. A full-fledged work is definitely a possibility in the future.

Regardless, this upcoming exhibition could be Gege Akutami’s final gift for fans of the Jujutsu Kaisen series. Gege Akutami has struggled greatly with health issues while working on the story, and while a lot of content had to be cut, it is still a work he dedicated years to. By giving fans a final exhibition featuring new content, this is looking like his final project on the series as a whole.

Of course, there is still the possibility of Weekly Shonen Jump requesting Gege Akutami to make another return to JJK. The series definitely has potential for another sequel, and with the help of Yuji Iwasaki, Gege would only have to write the story, which would definitely help him out massively. There is also a huge time gap between Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. Yuji’s death is set for 300 years into the future after Modulo. These scenarios make for compelling sequels that we could see flourish someday, but for now, the exhibition definitely seems like the end of the road for Jujutsu Kaisen.
