December 19 Will Be an Exciting Day for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Fans

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be getting a new expansion entitled “From the Ashes” on December 19. It’s shaping up to be a big year for James Cameron’s sci-fi franchise, with the third film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, set to come out in December and several significant changes on the horizon for Ubisoft’s open-world game. Not long after Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora passes the two-year mark since its release, it’ll get its third story expansion.

Frontiers of Pandora has been a somewhat divisive game since its release. Many early impressions passed it off as a Far Cry clone, while others praised its visuals and have enjoyed the immersion into the world of the Na’vi. The fanbase has grown enough for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora to become one of the best-selling Xbox Store games of 2024, and the team over at Massive Entertainment isn’t done with it yet.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s From the Ashes DLC Arrives on December 19

On September 22, Ubisoft announced that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s From the Ashes expansion would arrive on December 19, the same day that Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters. An official blog post accompanying the trailer revealed that From the Ashes’ story would pick up shortly after the events of the main game and follow a Na’vi warrior named So’lek as he sets out for revenge against the RDA and a “ruthless” new faction, the Ash clan. It’s a darker turn for Frontiers of Pandora‘s story, which is fitting, considering Fire and Ash could be the darkest Avatar movie yet.

In addition to the new story, From the Ashes will introduce some new combat mechanics and a new area. Details on what exactly these will look like are unclear for now, but according to the announcement, they will offer fans “deeper storytelling and more visceral gameplay.” Players who already own Frontiers of Pandora will be able to buy it as a standalone purchase, and Ubisoft will also offer a new From the Ashes Edition of the game, which will include the base game, the new expansion, and three new banshee color patterns. Fans also have some free content to look forward to, with Frontiers of Pandora getting a massive update on December 5, which will introduce a third-person mode, New Game Plus content, and more.

There are also rumors that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will get a director’s cut in the near future. If so, that version may include the From the Ashes expansion and the two previous DLC packs, although any such details, and even the existence of that version itself, are just speculation for now. Even if the director’s cut doesn’t happen or if it doesn’t come out soon, fans still have a lot to get excited about in the back end of 2025.
