My Hero Academia Creator Horikoshi Shuts Down The Strongest Quirk Forever

The world of My Hero Academia is heavily dominated by quirks, which also form the basis of the power system of the series. Quirks are unique abilities that people in the world of My Hero Academia are born with. These quirks manifest themselves at a very young age, and they form the basis of the big factions that exist in this world, such as Villains and Heroes.

Quirks were officially introduced on July 7, 2014, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 32, when Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia made its grand debut. The strongest of these quirks was also established to be One For All, wielded by the Number One Hero, All Might. This quirk was eventually passed down to Izuku Midoriya. Now, My Hero Academia has officially shut down the strongest work forever in a brand-new era where scientific technology is growing faster than ever before. If My Hero Academia is ever to make a comeback, it will do so without its official strongest Quirk and venture into unexplored territories with scientific evolution.

All Might wielded the strongest Quirk known as One For All at the beginning of My Hero Academia. This quirk was eventually transferred to the protagonist of the series, Izuku Midoriya, and in the subsequent years, he did his best to master this power the best he could. By the beginning of the Final War of My Hero Academia, Izuku’s control over One For All had grown dramatically, and he was already one of the strongest characters in the series.

However, by the end of it, Japan was in such a bad position that there existed no other way for Izuku to save everyone other than giving up his powers for good. In My Hero Academia Chapter 421, released officially on April 29, 2024, Izuku Midoriya transferred One For All to Shigaraki Tomura in an attempt to create an opening from the inside. He then fought against the influence of All For One in the upcoming few chapters, and this major sacrifice of his eventually paved the way for victory for the Heroes. However, Izuku lost One For All for good in this battle. He still held on to the embers of this power for quite some time, and they wouldn’t burn out until the release of My Hero Academia chapter 430, which came officially on August 5, 2024, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Double Issue #36-37.

In the epilogue arc, Izuku Midoriya’s embers had fully burnt out, and he did not get the opportunity to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a Pro Hero. Izuku instead went into teaching and took on the role of a professor at the UA High School, where he spent the vast majority of his time in the story. This made for quite a bittersweet ending for the original My Hero Academia series. Despite Izuku being born Quirkless, he ended up becoming Quirkless once again at the end of the series and had to give up the strongest quirk, which many believed would continue to live on for ages to come.

The New Strongest Quirk in My Hero Academia

In the absence of One For All, most fans would agree that All For One is the strongest quirk in the world of My Hero Academia. That said, with the fall of All For One in the Final War arc, this quirk no longer exists. As such, neither One For All nor All For One are present in the current world of My Hero Academia, and both have been shut down by the author permanently.

The strongest quirk that currently exists in the world of My Hero Academia could be argued to be Bakugo’s Explosion. There is also Shoto Todoroki’s Half-Hot Half-Cold quirk that exists as one of the strongest Quirks currently, and Mirio Togata’s Permeation is certainly up there with the best as well. Eri holds on to her power of Rewind as well, which is an incredibly deadly ability. If she goes on to control it by adulthood, then it could form the basis of one of the most dangerous abilities to ever exist.

All things taken into consideration, there are quite a lot of overpowered abilities that still exist in the world of My Hero Academia. Sadly, its official strongest quirk, that is, One For All, has been shut down forever, and it can no longer be passed down from one generation to another, which ends a decade-long tradition in the world of My Hero Academia.

While Izuku Midoriya lost the power of One For All, the world of My Hero Academia is changing rapidly. In the 8 years that followed the final war of the series, science grew dramatically, and Izuku Midoriya now holds the power of One For All once again through scientific means. The data that was taken from All Might’s battle against All For One, as well as the other fights that took place in the Final War, led to the creation of a battle suit for Izuku. This suit was funded by All Might, Bakugo Katsuki, and the other students of Class 1-A. At the end of the My Hero Academia series, Izuku Midoriya was gifted the suit by All Might himself, and it allowed him to become a Pro Hero once again.

I wanted to give you a special gift. The data from my fight against All For One opened up room for crazy possibilities. Technology has continued to evolve alongside Quirks. Take this to heart, kid. This too is a power you’ve earned, fair and square.” — All Might gifts Izuku Midoriya his Armor, My Hero Academia Chapter #430

Kohei Horikoshi himself stated in My Hero Academia’s guidebook that this battle suit of Izuku Midoriya replicates the abilities of One For All completely. It even allows him to use the various vestige abilities and combine two powers together to create a completely new ability, something that Izuku Midoriya was seen doing often in the original My Hero Academia series. In the two special chapters that Horikoshi revealed after the conclusion of the original story, Midoriya’s abilities were expanded upon quite a bit, but fans all over the world crave more from the author.

Question: How does the armor that Deku received from Class A function?

Horikoshi: It tries to mimic various OFA abilities; for example, it has cable extensions that function like his ability, Black Whip. It also serves as a prototype where he can try to combine various abilities.

To that end, My Hero Academia is getting a new announcement at Jump Festa 2027 on the Super Stage Red. There, new projects for My Hero Academia will be announced, and it is possible that we will get a new project that continues the journey of Izuku Midoriya and the other Pro Heroes from Class 1A. If that happens, we could finally get a proper look at Izuku’s overall power level and see how well One For All is replicated through scientific means in the new series.

All the chapters of My Hero Academia are available for fans to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
