Yuji Itadori is the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, and he began his journey as a sorcerer long ago on March 5, 2018, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 14. Ever since then, Yuji hasn’t looked back and has continued to go from strength to strength.
By the end of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji Itadori succeeded in defeating Ryomen Sukuna and eventually established himself as a Special Grade Sorcerer and became known as the Strongest. In the latest manga release of Jujutsu Kaisen, that is, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, however, Gege Akutami, the creator of the series, has officially stamped the death date on the character. Yuji Itadori’s death is now unavoidable, and it has now been confirmed that he is set to die in the near future.
Gege Akutami Sets A Death Date For Yuji Itadori In 300 Years
In Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, Yuji Itadori’s character arc took a very intriguing turn when it was revealed that he had cut himself off from the sorcerer society in general. Yuji Itadori reappeared in Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Chapter 19, which was officially released on January 26, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 9. He then continued to show off his strength in the subsequent chapters before eventually changing the world forever by removing Cursed Energy from all future generations.
“I was scared. I believed I shouldn’t have interfered with the current generation. should’ve gotten all shriveled up and kicked the bucket by now. But when you stop looking at today, looking at the past or the future becomes impossible. I should’ve done this with my own power. But I won’t disregard my purpose any longer. There’s something I need to do. And to do that, I need your help, Kugisaki!” — Yuji explains his isolation, JJK Modulo Chapter #25
The primary reason why Yuji Itadori cut himself off from everyone was explained by Yuji Itadori in the very last chapter of Modulo before the series concluded. Gege Akutami also addressed this in his own author notes and explained to us the logic that Yuji had followed. In the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga, Yuji Itadori was shown to consume Death Paintings 4 to 9 in an attempt to gain control of Blood Manipulation so that he could use Reverse Cursed Technique properly in the battle against Sukuna. Unbeknownst to him, this changed his entire life moving forward. Yuji Itadori became part cursed spirit, part human, and that meant that his lifespan was significantly greater than that of a normal human. Yuji existed on the border between a cursed spirit and a human and was seen differently by those around him.
“Upon absorbing the Cursed Wombs, he became a hybrid between a curse and a human, which caused his aging to slow down to an extreme degree” — Gege Akutami explains Yuji’s age, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Volume #3 Notes
More than that, Yuji Itadori’s lifespan has been extended to around 400 years, and there is still no official confirmation on how his body will change going down the line. In Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo chapter 22, which was officially released on February 16, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 12, Yuji confirmed that he is set to live for at least 300 more years. In other words, for 3 centuries, Yuji will still be alive, but then 3 centuries later, he is officially set to meet his end. When Yuji Itadori dies, he has a plan for resurrection, and that makes him an even more intriguing character, all things considered.
“I’m going to live for another 300 or so years. I will handle whatever follows. And if necessary, I’ll bear the consequences of this great sin.” — Yuji reveals his lifespan, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Chapter #22
Yuji’s Future After His Death In Jujutsu Kaisen
Gege Akutami has officially set a death date for Yuji Itadori, given that we now know that he will die in 300 years. Of course, 300 years is a significant time period, and Yuji Itadori won’t be seen falling anytime soon. That is precisely where a time skip comes in. The next Jujutsu Kaisen release that we get will most certainly skip ahead into the future and could show us Yuji Itadori having already died.
Interestingly enough, death is not going to mark the end of Yuji because, in Modulo Chapter 25, which was released officially on March 9, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 15, Yuji Itadori himself confirmed his plan to return after death. Yuji plans to turn himself into a cursed object just as Ryomen Sukuna did long ago. With the help of Kenjaku, Sukuna returned to the modern era when Yuji consumed his finger. Similarly, Yuji Itadori plans to turn himself into a cursed object, which will then be preserved by those in Tokyo.
“The last part is pretty bothersome. I’m gonna become a cursed object when I finally die. As you know, the aliens arrived. We don’t know what will become of the Earth later on. If people need cursed energy once again in the future, someone just has to eat me, as a cursed object!” — Yuji reveals his plan to become a Cursed Object, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #25
Only in the worst-case scenario, when humanity faces a great challenge or when his return is necessary, will Yuji be brought back. Someone will have to consume Yuji Itadori’s fingers in the future in order to facilitate his return, and that sets up the premise for an incredibly exciting timeline that Gege Akutami could potentially follow later down the line.
Why Yuji Itadori Will Grow Even Further After His Death In The Series
Right now, Yuji Itadori is incredibly powerful, and it has already been established in the Modulo era that he is known as the strongest on Earth and has become a Special Grade Sorcerer. Yuji’s growth from here onwards will continue, given that he is set to live for 300 more years and is going to be in his prime for a very long time. His understanding of sorcery is going to be far greater than that of any other we have seen in the series. He is also going to reach the pinnacle of what Jujutsu can grant to a person, but even after his death, his growth is set to continue.
When Yuji returns, he is going to find himself inside the body of potentially the new protagonist of the series, and here, he will finally be given another chance to grow even further. Taking into consideration everything that has been revealed about Yuji Itadori so far, his potential is limitless. As he continues to grow post-death, he is going to widen the gap between him and the others who are strongest in the series, such as Sukuna and Gojo. It is entirely possible that when Yuji Itadori returns in the future after his eventual passing, he will reach such a high level of strength that an entirely new sorcerer rank will be invented for him. Gojo Satoru previously mentioned that there were a couple of sorcerers capable of going beyond Special Grade, and Yuji might just be the first one to do that upon his return.
All the newest chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen and Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo by Gege Akutami are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
