12 years have passed since then, and finally, Masashi Kishimoto is officially returning to Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump with a sequel to the Naruto series. This new sequel, called Naruto ‘Shadow Rising,’ was officially announced on October 10, 2026, at the Naruto panel at New York Comic Con. A lot of exciting details about this new Naruto sequel manga, which is canon, have been revealed to us, and, needless to say, fans all over the world are incredibly excited for this new project.

The Naruto panel at New York Comic Con 2026 was first announced on August 19 earlier this year by Viz Media and Shueisha. Following this anime reveal, the panel also gave fans information on the upcoming Trading Card Game, set for a release in June 2027. Along with that, the global release of Naruto Mobile was also announced, but the biggest announcement was saved for last. It was officially confirmed at the end that Masashi Kishimoto, the legendary mangaka who wrote the Naruto series, which concluded in 2014, is making a comeback with a sequel to the original Naruto manga.

This new Naruto manga is set directly after the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War, when Kakashi was made Hokage. The title of this new Naruto manga is ‘Naruto: Shadow Rising.’ Not a lot of information has been revealed about this Naruto manga, but we were given a proper look at some of Masashi Kishimoto’s new sketches. A look at Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Kakashi Hatake, and Sakura Haruno was given to us, and one of the most exciting reveals was a teaser pertaining to Naruto and Sasuke’s battle towards the end.

This manga is set before Naruto becomes the Hokage, so fans should expect it to begin somewhere before the battle between Naruto Uzumaki and Toneri Otsutsuki, which was covered in Naruto: The Last movie. In many ways, this is a direct jump from Chapter 700 of the manga and continues Naruto Uzumaki’s journey while driving the narrative with many other side characters. The release date for this new Naruto manga has not been announced yet, but fans were asked to keep an eye on the Jump Festa 2027 stage for Naruto, where Kishimoto will reveal a lot of new information about this sequel story.

New Sequel Manga Set After The Events Of The Fourth Great Ninja War

Naruto Vs Sasuke Shadow Rising Manga

The new Naruto manga is a full-fledged official sequel to the original story by Kishimoto, written by him, and it will also be illustrated by the legendary mangaka. This new Naruto manga will finally show the fans the peaks of both Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, as it is set directly after the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War. For those who do not remember, Naruto Uzumaki was seen in Konoha after his battle with Sasuke Uchiha, waiting for a new arm to be made using the cells of Hashirama Senju. Sasuke Uchiha, meanwhile, left on a redemption journey all across the world. The new illustrations revealed by Kishimoto show Sasuke pelted by rain as he traverses across the world on his own redemption journey.

Meanwhile, Kakashi Hatake takes the office as the Sixth Hokage, and a lot of focus will be thrown on him as well. It seems that this new manga will span a multitude of years, as Sakura Haruno is seen with a newborn Sarada as well, which does not happen until many years later. As such, this seems like a long serialization which essentially revives the entire Naruto franchise for good.

Naruto Vs Sasuke Round 3 Is Happening Again

Naruto Vs Sasuke Round 3 Shadow Rising

Quite possibly the biggest and most exciting illustration by Masashi Kishimoto that we got to see was Naruto vs. Sasuke happening again. At the core of the entire Naruto series was their legendary battle. It happened first at the end of the first part of the Naruto manga before the time skip, and then again at the very end of the Fourth Great Ninja War.

Now, Naruto vs. Sasuke Round 3 has been officially confirmed, and fans all over the world are incredibly excited to witness it once more. Whether this is a serious battle or just a brawl between two friends remains to be seen. What we know for sure is that both Naruto and Sasuke continue to grow in terms of strength after the war, and this manga will depict exactly how they gain even more of a legendary status across the ninja world.

Sasuke Uchiha Shadow Rising Manga Sequel

Given that Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto series is making an official comeback with a manga sequel, likely in 2027, we can say with absolute certainty that it will also go on to receive an anime adaptation at some point later down the line. Unfortunately, this anime is not going to come anytime soon. The Naruto manga needs to have enough content first to get an anime. Interestingly enough, the new Rasegan Roadmap that was announced at NYCC 2026 left many projects unannounced, but it did more than enough to tease them. There are some projects that are set to be revealed in the upcoming years, all the way up to 2030, which means that the new Naruto anime that is going to adapt the sequel manga will slot right in.

In either case, we are all incredibly excited for this new Naruto franchise revival with a sequel manga by Masashi Kishimoto. After being largely disappointed by the Boruto series on various occasions, time and again, it is time for a proper Naruto story written by the legend Masashi Kishimoto himself. All our eyes are glued on Jump Festa 2027, where Naruto is going to make a big announcement at Super Stage Red on December 19 and 20. Key details about the event, such as the release date and its serialization length, will be revealed then. Until then, fans have ample time to get excited about this new project.
