It has been nearly a year since IT: Welcome to Derry released its first season. Now, showrunner Brad Caleb Kane has shared new details about Season 2 of the HBO series. He teased that the upcoming season will have a “different palette” from the first season and also provided the status update on its development.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kane said, “We’re making something very exciting for season 2 that I can’t talk too much about, but it’s got a different palette.”
Season 1 explored Derry’s history in the 1960s, while Season 2 will move back to 1935 and focus on the Bradley Gang. He added, “It’s the Depression, it’s 1935. Beyond that, I can’t talk about it, but you can imagine a Warner Bros. gangster picture through the lens of Pennywise and Stephen King. That’s kind of what we’re doing.”
Further, talking about the status of the upcoming season, Kane said, “We’re deep into the writers’ room now.”
He added, “We have multiple scripts, we’ve broken more than half the story for season 2, and we’re edging into pre-production. Beyond that, I think I’ll get suffocated by somebody if I tell you too much more. But, yes, we are deep into it, and it is happening. It’s very exciting. It’s very, very bloody, and it’s very different from season 1.”
Based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel It, the series serves as a prequel to the films It in 2017 and It Chapter Two in 2019. It was developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs.
As of now, It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 does not have a release date. While you wait for more updates on the upcoming season, Season 1 is currently streaming on JioHotstar in India.
