Black Clover is a brilliant story that follows the main protagonist, Asta, who stands tall as an anomaly of the magic world. In a world full of magic, he was born uniquely without any mana. Despite his overwhelming initial disadvantage, Asta awakened to a new power that turned him into one of the strongest in the Black Clover verse — his Five Clover Grimoire. Through the Devil Liebe that inhabits his Grimoire, Asta unlocked anti-magic, the antithesis of all other mana-based powers.
Now, Asta’s devilish powers have reached a new scale, as seen on October 17, 2026. His previously imperfect Devil Union has been perfected, and his true powers were put on full display in Black Clover Season 2 Episode 3 and Episode 4.
Black Clover Reveals Asta’s New Perfected Fusion With Devil Liebe
Black Clover is a manga that first debuted in 2015 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. In the very first chapter of the series, we were introduced to Asta, a young orphan who grew up in the care of the church. Unlike everyone else around him, he was born with a mysterious condition that made him magicless. In a world where everyone else could use magic, Asta seemed powerless. The only thing he could do was increase his physical strength; however, this strength alone could never be enough to make him one of the strongest in the world of Black Clover. That is why, not too long after he reached the age of 15, he acquired a very unique grimoire in the form of a Five Clover Grimoire.
This Five Clover Grimoire was inhabited by a unique Devil who would later be revealed to be a low-ranking devil named Liebe. Liebe’s rage created a power known as anti-magic. Anti-magic is thus a power that stems directly from the devil himself. With anti-magic at his disposal, Asta was able to counter magic users with ease, and his strength continued to grow.
Through arduous battles and tough challenges along the way, Asta came into contact with the Devil who inhabits his grimoire, and through their union, a new form was born, known as Devil Union. Initially, Asta unlocked this power in the Witch’s Forest arc of Black Clover. During the Spade Kingdom Raid arc, he used his Devil Union against Dante, but this transformation was a long way from being perfected.
Finally, upon Black Clover’s return with a second season following a long wait, Asta has now tapped into a new, upgraded Devil power. This Devil power is referred to as the True Devil Union. It is the perfected form of the previously weaker fusion with Liebe, and it first debuted specifically in Black Clover Season 2 Episode 3, where Asta took on a powerful ancient Devil. This new Devil power has upgraded Asta’s overall abilities.
All Powers and Abilities Of Asta’s True Devil Union
Asta’s True Devil Union form debuted in Black Clover Season 2 Episode 3 on October 17, 2026, making it one of the most hyped moments of the new installment. Fans were extremely excited for this transformation to shine, as it had already been teased previously in the story. Since Asta already had an imperfect Devil Union form, which he used in the Spade Kingdom Raid arc, it was only a matter of time until this fusion was taken to the next level.
For context, Devil Union is quite different from his regular Black Asta form. Instead of forcing the powers of Liebe out, Devil Union sees Asta enter into a contract with the Devil inhabiting his Grimoire. They become equal partners and fight together, hand in hand, to defeat their enemies. It is this bond that makes Devil Union as powerful as it is.
Since Liebe has the powers of anti-magic, when fused with Asta, their anti-magic abilities drastically increase. Previously, with partial Devil Union, Asta was only able to coat the right side of his body with Anti-Magic for the most part. True Devil Union sees his full body coated in anti-magic. In other words, most magical attacks that are launched towards him are cancelled upon touching his anti-magic armor.
This is a powerful defensive form, but it also increases Asta’s offensive output quite drastically. As seen in Black Clover Season 2 Episode 3, Asta was able to increase his anti-magic output to blitz the ancient devil with his true Devil Union form, thus being able to cut a lot more efficiently with anti-magic. His current power level makes it so that only the very strongest are able to survive his strikes.
Asta’s Devil Powers Are Set To Increase In Black Clover Season 2
Asta has always relied on the powers of the low-ranking Devil Liebe, and while he just unlocked his True Devil Union, his strength is set to grow. The Ancient Devil was already a powerful challenger for Asta, but even stronger opponents are going to be featured in Black Clover Season 2. For one, it’s already been teased that Asta’s next big opponents are none other than the Supreme-ranking Devils who have emerged from the First Gate of Qilpoth, the twins Lilith and Naamah.
Every fight Asta undertakes will help him grow stronger. His synchronization with Liebe cannot go much further, but there are still other ways he can bring out his anti-magic and push his enemies back. One massive issue Asta has with his Devil Union is his time limit. Even though True Devil Union allows him to stay in the form longer, he is still greatly limited to only 5 minutes. Asta’s Devil powers will only get stronger once his stamina is taken to its limits. To that end, with his rivalry with Yuno, his growth will also continue.
Asta’s contribution is needed now more than ever before as the threat of the Dark Triad is out in the open, and the Devils are pouring out of the opened First Gate. Only Asta’s entrance into Spade can help tip the scales in the favor of the Magic Knights. With his help, the lives of Yami and William can be saved with certainty.
We’re excited to see what else Black Clover Season 2 has in store for us. The next episode of the series, that is, Black Clover Season 2 Episode 5 is set to be released globally on October 31, 2026. It will be available to watch upon release on the popular anime streaming platform, Crunchyroll.
