Grand Theft Auto 6 promises to be the biggest Grand Theft Auto game yet, with an expansive and modern-day take on Rockstar Games’ version of Miami: Vice City. The city and surrounding regions will be full of NPCs, cars and other vehicles to steal, and locations of varying seediness to visit. Expect everything to be bigger, more photorealistic, and more detailed than in previous GTA games. So expect GTA 6 to be big — really big — and clear out some storage space in anticipation of the game’s November digital-only launch.
Thanks to the aptly named account PlayStation Game Size, we now know how much storage space PlayStation 5 owners will need to allocate for GTA 6.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will weigh in at a whopping 210 GB at launch, according to PlayStation Game Size’s data. That appears to apply to the standard release of the game on PS5. It’s unclear if the pricier Ultimate Edition will eat up more storage space.
We also don’t have data yet on the install sizes for Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.
How does GTA 6’s install size compare to previous games?
Install sizes are always in flux as game patches and content updates roll out, but we have one direct comparison, also from PlayStation Game Size. The account lists Grand Theft Auto 5 as requires 95 GB of storage on PlayStation 4 and 100 GB on PlayStation 5. The Windows PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced requires 105 GB of storage space, according to the game’s listing on Steam. That’s a big step up from the previous game in the franchise; Grand Theft Auto 4: The Complete Edition on PC requires just 22 GB on Steam.
The first Grand Theft Auto for Windows requires a much more modest 652 MB, according to the game’s listing on an abandonware website.
GTA 6‘s install size is certainly large, but not as big as some other games. The recently released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 requires more than 300 GB of storage space on Xbox platforms, for example. Call of Duty is notorious for its beefy install sizes, thanks to regular content updates and multiple game types. Six years ago, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War made headlines for its 180 GB install size.
Fortunately, GTA fans will have ample time to preload Grand Theft Auto 6. Preloads for the game start on Nov. 12.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on Nov. 19.
