Cui in Phantom Blade Zero is the name of the quest, as well as the quest giver that players will find towards the end of the Village of Lu, who will ask Soul to find her grandfather. She’ll also hand over a Red Ribbon, which is a story item that players will need to show to her grandfather, and then later to her parents in the subsequent Cui’s quest in Phantom Blade Zero.
How to Start Cui Questline in Phantom Blade Zero
Players will need to reach the end of the Village of Lu and fight the final boss, Yuzan, No. 3 Musician Puppet, to find Cui and start her quest. Once the fight is over, look around the bell, and you’ll find two elevated platforms in the boss arena with a red hue.
You’ll find a puppet on top of one of these platforms, sitting at the back of the platform. Talk to Cui’s puppet, and it’ll give you Cui’s Red Ribbon. You’ll also start the questline that will first require you to find Cui’s grandfather in Phantom Blade Zero.
Where to Find Cui’s Grandfather in Phantom Blade Zero
Cui’s Grandfather Location
You’ll find Cui’s grandfather once you reach the Mountain of Imprisonment region. This is a missable region that you’ll need to enter by completing the Illusory Pipa quest and playing the instrument at the specific location on Meigu Lake (more details in this guide).
You’ll find Cui’s grandfather trapped in a cage right after you pass the Iron Butcher’s Camp bell. After defeating the enemies around the cage, you’ll hear him shout out to Soul for help. Once you release Cui’s grandfather, he’ll introduce himself as Lu Sanqian and will ask Soul to open up the gate (that’s locked from the other side).
How to Open the Door for Cui’s Grandfather
Follow the path I’ve marked on the image above to get around the door and unlock it for Cui’s grandfather.
Towards the end of the pathway, you’ll need to find Bi Feng, Giant Saber Commander boss, right after the Cavern Passage bell.
Once you defeat Bi Feng, make sure to pick up the Rootless Dew story item in the boss arena, at the edge of the cliff behind the red gazebo.
If you miss picking up the Rootless Dew item in the boss arena, you won’t be able to progress the quest past the second encounter.
Now, head past the Commander’s Platform bell and turn right to open the door for Cui’s grandfather. Now talk to him, and he’ll disappear, but the quest won’t end here.
How to Find Cui’s Grandfather on the Mountain of Imprisonment Again
Next, you’ll need to progress normally till you reach the Shrine Outer Gate bell in the Mountain of Imprisonment.
Drop down from the bell area, and you’ll need to defeat Kui Yanyan, the Deranged boss. Once the boss is down, head down the ladder in the boss arena and follow the path into the caverns.
You’ll eventually arrive at a large area with cages hanging on top. If you’ve completed the previous encounter, you’ll hear Cui’s grandfather asking Soul to help him escape the cage.
Head forward and defeat a couple of enemies that are fighting each other. You’ll get the Shrine Gate key from defeating them that you’ll need for later. Now, head up the ladder, and you’ll be able to release three cages; the fourth one requires a key item unrelated to the quest.
Once Cui’s grandfather is released from the cage, talk to him, and you’ll use the Rootless Dew to help him quench his thirst. Now, he’ll head for the Lady’s shrine at the top of the mountain.
How to Meet Cui’s Grandfather Last Time
For the next objective, you’ll need to use the Shrine Gate key at the locked door near the Shrine Outer Gate bell to reach the Lady’s Shrine.
Right before the encounter with Mountain of Imprisonment’s final boss, you’ll find Cui’s grandfather crawling towards the shrine. Talk to him one last time, and he’ll give players Cui’s Red Ribbon back, his last letter to his son, and the Crude Radiant Heart accessory. The quest objective will also update to find Cui’s parents in Phantom Blade Zero.
Where to Find Cui’s Parents in Phantom Blade Zero
To find Cui’s parents, you’ll need to complete any pending quests before you head to the Mirage Estate, and then later enter the Mount Soulrend region. This area is extremely linear, and you’ll find Cui’s parents near the Last Mandate Encampment bell on Mount Soulrend.
Talk to Cui’s parents, and you’ll give them the Red Ribbon and Lu Sanqian’s last letter. During the conversation, Cui’s mother will pass away, and the next scene will show Soul and Cui’s father standing over her grave.
Once this encounter is completed, progress through the area normally until you encounter the boss, Saw and the Crusher. During the cutscene with the boss, you’ll see Cui’s father jump to aid Soul and get fatally wounded in the battle.
Once you’ve defeated the Saw and the Crusher, talk to Cui’s father, and he’ll give players the Baishan Headband Soul Tempering material. This is how players will complete Cui’s quest in Phantom Blade Zero.
