Devil Fruits are a great power system in One Piece, but in the post-timeskip, Haki, the power to harness spirit and willpower, has become the most necessary power in the series. One can simply not become the strongest in One Piece without having strong Haki to compete at the very top, even if they have an overpowered Devil Fruit. Luffy’s Devil Fruit control has reached its peak, but his Haki still needs improvement. Characters like Shanks and Joy Boy are still far ahead of him in that regard.
Whitebeard
The World’s Strongest Man
Whitebeard was known as the world’s strongest man, and he possessed a devil fruit with the capability of destroying the world, called the Gura Gura no Mi. While Whitebeard highly relied on this fruit, he also had great Haki to use in combat.
Whitebeard was able to split the sky with Shanks, and he was the equal of the likes of Roger and Rocks at some point.
Rayleigh
The Right Hand of the Pirate King
Rayleigh is another overpowered Roger Pirates member, and he acted as Roger’s right arm. Rayleigh was the one to teach Luffy the basics of Haki, and while Luffy has grown tremendously since then, he has yet to surpass Rayleigh in terms of Haki mastery. Rayleigh’s Haki was great even back in God Valley as he was able to send a Holy Knight flying.
Gaban
The Left Hand of the Pirate King
Gaban was one of the strongest members among the Roger Pirates, and he played a massive role in the Elbaf arc. Gaban has become the first character in One Piece to showcase the amazing feat of bypassing immortality, and this alone goes to show how strong his Haki is. Gaban’s Haki is beyond the level of Luffy at this moment.
Harald
The Late King of Elbaf
Harald was the King of Elbaf, and he was known to be the strongest king Elbaf has ever had. Fans can easily see why Harald was considered so powerful, as he was the equal of someone like Rocks D. Xebec.
While Harald could’ve eaten a Devil Fruit in Elbaf, he mostly only relied on Haki. In his battle against Rocks, he was able to tie him, and that’s a great feat in itself.
Garp
The Hero of the Marines
Garp is one of the most legendary marines ever, and Luffy’s very own grandfather. As fans know already, Garp has no Devil Fruit, and purely relies on the brute force of his Haki. Even out of his prime, Garp far surpasses Luffy, especially in Haki. He showcased his incredible Haki mastery when he almost destroyed the Blackbeard Pirates singlehandedly, and in God Valley, when he attacked the pirates.
Shanks
The Strongest Haki User Alive
If there’s one character whose name is synonymous with powerful Haki use, it’s definitely Red Haired Shanks, the current strongest Yonko in One Piece. Shanks has no Devil Fruit and he purely relies on Haki. He has showcased some of the greatest Haki feats in One Piece, and Dorry and Brogy have even compared his Haki to Joy Boy’s, which was so strong that it could knock back the Five Elders and scare even Imu.
Rocks
The Descendant of Davy D. Jones
Rocks D. Xebec is one of the most legendary figures of the One Piece world, and fans can see why. As a fighter, Rocks was a monstrously powerful individual, and he fully relied on his powerful Haki. Rocks’s Haki was so strong that he was able to kill an Admiral with rather ease, and even reach Imu and escape Marijoa unscathed. In God Valley, he even destroys the leader of the Holy Knights, Saint Garling Figarland, all with relative ease. His Haki was special in the sense that it blew away everyone with shockwave-like impacts.
Roger
The Pirate King
Roger is the late Pirate King of the One Piece world, and like many other overpowered Haki users, he never had any Devil Fruit ability.
Roger was able to make it to the top of the One Piece world with his Haki alone, which just goes to showcase how powerful it was. Roger’s Haki was strong enough to clash with the likes of Whitebeard and Rocks on equal footing.
Imu
The Secret Sovereign of the World
Imu is the strongest character of the One Piece world right now, and an individual who has been alive since the days of the Void Century. There is a lot shrouded in mystery when it comes to his character, but one thing that can be said for sure is that Imu’s Haki is of the absolute highest order. Imu has only shown a fraction of their abilities through their vessel Gunko on Elbaf, and Saturn on God Valley, but it’s already quite impressive. Imu’s Conqueror Haki resonates in Elbaf as the battle wages on.
Joy Boy
The Previous Nika
Joy Boy was One Piece’s strongest Haki user and, undoubtedly, he has showcased the greatest Haki feat seen so far in the series. Joy Boy’s 800-year-old Conqueror’s Haki was stored within Emeth, and upon being unleashed, it knocked the Gorosei back to Marijoa, split the skies single-handedly, knocked out the Vice Admirals, and had Imu shaking.
Joy Boy is the only character in One Piece who was able to achieve all this with Haki. He far surpasses Luffy in Haki right now, but eventually, Luffy will outgrow him.
