Call of Duty Game is Permanently Shutting Down on November 6

A Call of Duty game is permanently shutting down on Friday, November 6. Call of Duty is one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time, with new entries in the series consistently named the best-selling game every year, with very few exceptions. A big selling point of Call of Duty is the franchise’s signature PvP multiplayer experience, which has gone through many changes over the years while still retaining the core experience for fans.

Whereas many other online-focused games have shut down their servers long ago, it’s still possible to play the vast majority of classic Call of Duty games online. Some classic Call of Duty games have problems with hackers and things like that, but it’s still possible to get into games, even with new entries in the series coming out every year. But while most classic Call of Duty games live on, a 2020 release is unfortunately shutting down.

When is COD Warzone Shutting Down on PS4 and Xbox One?

The PS4 and Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Warzone is shutting down on Friday, November 6. Call of Duty: Warzone is the premiere Call of Duty battle royale experience. Releasing during the COVID-19 pandemic, Warzone was a massive hit at the time of its launch and is still one of the most popular BRs on the market to this day. Warzone came out before PS5 or Xbox Series X/S were even a thing, so many fans spent the most time in the game on PS4 and Xbox One. Sadly, that version of the game will no longer exist by the end of the week, but it’s probably better for the BR in the long run. Warzone‘s PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S versions will still be available.

The latest Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 4, ditched PS4 and Xbox One to focus solely on modern platforms. This means that Modern Warfare 4 isn’t being held back by the outdated hardware, and it’s a move that appears to have paid off. Since Modern Warfare 4 doesn’t support PS4 or Xbox One, it makes sense that its Warzone integration is coinciding with the BR leaving those old consoles behind as well. But while Warzone shutting down on PS4 and Xbox One makes logical sense, it’s understandable that some nostalgic fans may still be bummed to see it happen.

Warzone‘s PS4 and Xbox servers shutting down will happen on November 6 when Season 1 goes live. Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 will add new maps, weapons, and more to the core multiplayer, but it will also mean big things for Warzone. On that day, Warzone will incorporate MW4‘s content, and it will also add the Hajin map. Modern Warfare 4‘s DMZ mode currently uses the Hajin map for those that want a sneak peek.

Modern Warfare 4 will get new updates on a regular basis in the weeks and months ahead. But even after Call of Duty releases its 2027 game and the big new MW4 updates slow down, fans don’t have to worry about the servers for the core multiplayer being shut down. So while it’s unfortunate Warzone‘s PS4 and Xbox One versions are shutting down on November 6, the majority of the CoD franchise will not be impacted.
