Magic is reprinting an infamous Commander staple with perfect Avatar art

Each new Magic: The Gathering set comes with a Bonus Sheet featuring reprinted versions of older cards with clever, original art. Thankfully, Avatar: The Last Airbender is no exception, and Wizards has really gone above and beyond this time. The game’s latest Universes Beyond expansion features 61 bonus sheet cards, one for each episode of the show. Each reprint also features an image from the original animated series, carefully selected to match the card itself. You can check the bottom left corner to see which episode each image comes from.

Ahead of Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s Magic debut on Nov. 21, Polygon is sharing five exclusive Bonus Sheet cards from the set. (Check out our other Avatar exclusive here.) You’ll be able to find these in regular booster packs — if you’re lucky.

Imprisoned in the Moon

Market value: $0.25

Original set: Eldritch Moon (2006)

The story of Sokka and Yue is one of Avatar‘s most famous moments. It’s a story of love and heartbreak, which ends when Yue makes the choice to save her people by sacrificing her life to replace the Moon after it’s destroyed when the Fire Nation kills a fish that represents the Moon’s spirit (yeah, it’s weird, but it’s also extremely well done).

There could only be one card to represent this moment in Avatar, and it had to be Imprisoned in the Moon, four words that will likely make any Commander player flinch. This card has the ability to turn any creature or planeswalker (including your opponent’s commander) into a land that loses all other abilities, making it both totally useless and very difficult to destroy (which means they have no way to re-cast their commander either).

Imprisoned in the Moon has been reprinted so many times that it’s pretty cheap to buy, but this pitch-perfect art is still irresistible for Avatar fans who don’t mind annoying their Commander pod.

Clone Legion

MTG Avatar Clone Legion

There is no war in Ba Sing Se. This powerful (and high mana cost) sorcery captures Avatar’s spooky Book 2 plotline within the allegedly peaceful walls of the Earth Kingdom.

Clone

MTG Avatar Clone

This iconic Magic card from the game’s original launch in 1993 features art from another classic Avatar moment: The Ember Island Players.

Original set: Champions of Kamigawa (2004)

Cute!

Return of the Wildspeaker

MTG Avatar-Return of the Wildspeaker_EN_HRR
