Where to Get Scrap & Materials in The Last Caretaker

In The Last Caretaker, players will be taking on the role of a steward bot that’s responsible for nurturing the last seeds of humanity. The goal here is simple: protect the seeds from hostile bots and the forces of nature, and do your best to build a rocket and send those seeds to space. Naturally, you’re going to need a ton of resources to keep this operation going, and since the world is basically underwater in The Last Caretaker, much of the materials you need will come from salvaged scrap (among other things).

How to Dismantle Scrap in The Last Caretaker

Scrap can refer to pretty much anything that isn’t bolted down, and you can get plenty of it through scavenging. Debris, furniture, machinery, and other bits and bobs you find scattered around the world can be recycled into useful materials, and the way you do that is by getting the Dismantle Tool, which you unlock at Level 2. Once you’ve unlocked it, press T to open the Tool Menu, and select the Dismantle Tool from there.

Loose bits of scrap can simply be picked up, though some may still need to get tossed inside a Recycler.

When you’re holding the Dismantle Tool, point your crosshair at any item in the world to see if you can dismantle it. Hold the Left Mouse Button to start the dismantling process — this will take time and electricity, both of which will be shown on your screen by a small prompt.

After you’ve completely dismantled an object, you’ll have to go to a Recycler before you can use that object for other purposes. There’s a Recycle on your boat, but if you want to make another one, you’ll need to reach Level 4 and unlock it from the skill list. Place any dismantled items onto your Recycler, and they’ll get spat out as useful resources. You can also throw things into Recyclers.

Crafted items can also be recycled at a Recylcer, but you must have them unlocked on the skills list first.
