Halo Infinite’s next major update will be its last

After four years of regularly introducing news maps, gameplay modes, and equipment for Halo Infinite, Halo Studios has announced that it is releasing the last major update for the game on Nov. 18.

“With multiple Halo titles in development, we’ll need our whole team’s combined focus to deliver new experiences with the same passion and care that our community has given us,” the studio said in a blog post previewing the update.

343 Industries rebranded as Halo Studios in October 2024, laying out a roadmap explaining that the shift from their in-house Slipspace Engine to Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 would allow the studio to become a multi-project team with a faster schedule of new games and updates. The first new project, Halo: Campaign Evolved, was announced in October.

The remake of the first game’s campaign with Unreal Engine 5 is expected to launch in 2026 across PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, marking the first time the franchise has been available on PlayStation. Campaign Evolved will not feature PvP multiplayer, but will allow for four-player online or two-player local co-op.

The Halo: Infinite “Operation: Infinite” update will allow players to earn eight new armor sets, offer 200 customizations, and kick off a new ranked season. It also introduces a festive Yuletide Husky raid map and an asymmetrical map dubbed Vacancy, where players can shoot it out in a hotel courtyard.

Halo Studios has promised to keep supporting Halo: Infinite with new ranked seasons every few months that will reward exclusive customizations. The game will also continue to have rotating daily and weekly challenges.

Halo will mark its 25th anniversary in 2026, and the celebration will culminate in Seattle at Halo Fest Dec. 11-13, 2026. The event will feature the first full-length concert performance of the game’s music, plus esports competitions, a cosplay contest, and appearances by voice actors. Tickets go on sale on Dec. 10.
