PlayStation 5 won the console war by default. What now?

Yesterday, we kicked off our look back at the five-year anniversary of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. As part of that, we asked you to help us figure out the best first-party game between those consoles. We picked 16 games — eight Sony-published games from the PS5 library and eight Microsoft games from the Xbox Series X side — and dropped them into a good old-fashioned east vs. west bracket. You, our readers, showed up ready for some friendly competition and gave us one heck of an exciting first round.

We saw some incredibly dramatic match-ups that came down to the wire. Super Earth fell when Helldivers 2 just barely lost to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Avowed and Halo Infinite had a shockingly close fight, but Obsidian’s RPG just barely eked out a win. There were some total blowouts too, which signal that we have a few power players as we make our way to Thursday’s finals. Astro Bot absolutely trounced Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, racking up more votes than any single game in the first round. Hi-Fi Rush made a surprising splash on the Xbox side, destroying the divisive Starfield.

With eight games advancing after yesterday’s battles, the war gets serious today in round two. Can Astro Bot keep its momentum going against a behemoth like God of War Ragnarok? Will Forza Horizon 5 run over Avowed, a game that only squeaked its way into the final eight? Could we be heading to an IP crossover clash between Spider-Man and Indiana Jones? I can confidently say that I have no idea what the finals match up is going to look like as of now.
