No, it’s not an Area Denial grenade launcher.
Some people’s first thought when hearing “romantic death” would be Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, but Destiny 2 players who have been grinding the Call To Arms event for god rolls may think of something else: the game’s new Void-aligned grenade launcher.
Romantic Death first surfaced briefly during the Reclaim: New Territories event in Ash & Iron in September, but the game’s developer is giving players another chance to grab this weapon (and other goodies) until Nov. 25.
The Call to Arms grenade launcher is a Wave Frame, so don’t expect it to replace a well-rolled VS Velocity Baton. But, as anyone who’s used a Forbearance will tell you, a Wave Frame can be deadly in the right circumstances. Here are our PvE god rolls for Romantic Death in Destiny 2, based on the perk list on light.gg.
Romantic Death PvE god rolls in Destiny 2

- Launcher: Volatile Launch, Linear Compensator, or Quick Launch
- Mag: High-Velocity Rounds
- First perk: Repulsor Brace, Proximity Power, Feeding Frenzy, or Stats For All
- Second perk: Destabilizing Rounds, Chain Reaction, or One For All
Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds is a tried-and-true Void combo. It’s hard to go wrong with it, especially in a weapon with area-based damage. This pairing gives you free overshields in any subclass, so you don’t need to be on Void to benefit from it. Repulsor Brace may be good enough by itself if you’re using the purple element, however, leaving another perk open to your preference.
Since Romantic Death is a single-shot grenade launcher, having reload-boosting perks is key if you’re not using that slot for specific buildcrafting needs, such as Repulsor Brace (for Void) or Proximity Power for melee energy. In that case, Feeding Frenzy is a good kill-based perk with a hefty buff to reload speed, and the grenade launcher’s area of effect can get multiple kills with one pull of the trigger. Chain Reaction is still pretty strong despite its nerf in The Final Shape, so this perk also features in our god roll.
Stats For All also works for that purpose, but it gets even better with another perk combination. It’s easy to hit three targets within quick succession, so One For All is king in that department. The existence of Stats For All in the third column is no coincidence, either, so take advantage of that combo if you want bigger numbers.
Alternatively, for melee builds who are in the thick of combat, Proximity Power improves your melee stat after killing an enemy within 15 meters. If you’re going that route, you may also keep a roll with Surrounded for more damage, though we’d probably recommend One For All as a safer option. Aggregate Charge may also work in some scenarios, but that wouldn’t be our first pick either.
How to get Romantic Death in Destiny 2

While previously part of the New Territories: Reclaim event early into Ash & Iron, Romantic Death is now available as part of the Call To Arms event. This end-of-season extravaganza runs until Nov. 25, and it’s unclear how (or if) Bungie plans to make Romantic Death available after that.
