The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has cast its Rosalina, and it’s a good choice

Nintendo and Illumination dropped the first full trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday, during a Nintendo Direct dedicated to the upcoming animated film. The sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie will send Mario to the far reaches of the galaxy, where he’ll meet a new princess and a new rival in… Bowser, Jr., son of the King of the Koopas.

Like the Wii-era games the movie is based on, Mario will leave the comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom for outer space in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, meeting some familiar faces on his journey — like the Luma, a breakout star from The Super Mario Bros. Movie. But it appears that he and his brother Luigi will face a new, metal-powered foe, in Bowser’s angry little boy. The trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie isn’t just awash in Galaxy imagery, though; there’s some Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser’s Fury hints in here too.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will see voice talent Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek) reprise their roles. New to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie cast are Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser, Jr, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri confirmed.

Nintendo and Illumination’s new Mario movie will arrive on the heels of the original Super Mario Bros. game’s 40th anniversary. Beyond his new movie, 2026 will be a big year for Mario and friends; Nintendo has a trio of new releases already confirmed for next year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be released on April 3, 2026.
