The first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has arrived, and with it comes confirmation of who will play Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Over the years, the Super Mario franchise has become one of the most iconic names in gaming, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is bringing one of its most beloved spin-offs to life.
Earlier this week, Nintendo announced a surprise Direct Event, with the company emphasizing that there would not be any games featured at the showcase and would solely focus on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Recently, Super Mario Galaxy has been put back in the spotlight, as the first and second games have arrived on the Switch 2. With Nintendo putting extra focus on the series to generate more hype for the upcoming movie, the reveal of the voice casting for Rosalina and Bowser Jr. adds to the mounting excitement.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Casts Brie Larson and Benny Safdie
- The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premieres April 3, 2026.
- Brie Larson will voice Rosalina.
- Benny Safdie will voice Bowser Jr.
Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson, will be stepping away from the MCU and diving into the world of Nintendo. Also, Benny Safdie will take his place as Bowser Jr., as the character is on a mission to save Bowser. Brie Larson has been incredibly vocal about her love for Nintendo, so her casting as Rosalina makes a lot of sense. Film lovers will know Benny Safdie from his work as a director, screenwriter, and actor, with some of his most recent works being The Smashing Machine, Uncut Gems, and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Not only will Brie Larson and Benny Safdie be part of the sequel, but the original cast members, like Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Charlie Day, and Keegan-Michael Key are set to return as well. Taking on a series as beloved as Super Mario Galaxy is no easy task, but based on the movie’s first trailer, Illumination is teasing a visually impressive time in theaters.
With the sequel set to arrive in April, eager Nintendo fans only have a few months left before diving into another Super Mario movie. The legacy of Super Mario has helped build the video game industry, and seeing so many of these characters animated on the big screen is bound to bring a hit of nostalgia. However, it’s also a demonstration of just how intertwined in pop culture video games have become.
