Ah, Hive Lords. Veterans of the first installment of the game probably still have PTSD from these monstrous bugs. Well, there are some indications that the Hive Lords might appear in Helldivers 2, as well. And, no, we aren’t talking about those skeletons players can sometimes stumble upon.
Are the Devs Teasing Hive Lords?
Now, for those in the unknown, Hive Lords were (maybe still are!) horrifying worm-like creatures with huge, um, pincers. They mostly moved under the ground, only occasionally coming up to the surface and wreaking chaos.
It’s entirely possible that you’ve seen their skeletons scattered on the map in Helldivers 2. However, no one has seen a living Hive Lord, yet. Some players have been hoping for this monster to join the Terminid roster.
Well, now that Helldivers have finally set foot into the Gloom, and they are facing the Predator strain and the new Spore Burst strain, maybe it’s time. And, aside from the scattered skeletons (we’ve seen one on our first mission in the Gloom!), some players experienced some strange things.
One of them, mortaxe108, posted a video (below) where you can see and hear the earth beneath them rumbling. This layer noted: “As you can see I was on my own, no bugs nearby, and suddenly this happens. Spores appear around the ground and I hear thumping and a roar from under the ground”. A couple of players reported experiencing this as well.
Helldivers Have Various Theories and Wishes for Hive Lords
Of course, Helldivers 2 players jumped at the idea of Hive Lords joining the Second Galactic War. Helldivers love a new challenge, and even though the devs did tease a new bug, getting a Hive Lord would be even better.
No_Lingonberry_3646 stated: “I wish Arrowhead was not afraid to turn the difficulty up to a 10. Give us a lvl 15 difficulty with an ungodly amount of Bile Titans(buff them while you’re at it) and Hive Lords. I should not be able to one-shot the most powerful enemy on a front with half a dozen weapons just in my carried loadout”.
Now, if you are among the players who’ve seen Hive Lord skeletons, you might have thought they weren’t all that terrifying. However, they were quite larger in the first installment, so it’s possible that these are juveniles.
G-Maskas suggested: “As we have already seen, we can sometimes find Hive Lord skeletons, or are they? Because, of the color, and texture, it seems to be, a molt! Meaning that we could find something even bigger”. Would this mean that all the time we’ve seen one of these lying around, a full-grown Hive Lord was in the vicinity?
