Saturdays are for lounging, half-dressed, half-washed, chair tilted back (or better yet, bed unrisen from), staring blearily up at a lovely array of pixels moving about at the command of a pair of thumbs on thumbsticks. Sadly, I’ll be moving house instead, but at least I can read the comments section below and live vicariously through all of you, you half-dressed, half-washed bastards.

I’ve finally acknowledged the summons and come out of indie horror hibernation to face the titan that is Hades 2. But the trial is already testing me. I booted it up earlier this week, and as expected, it sank its ghoulish little tentacles into my brain and is now casting magical illusions, luring me in with its honeyed words: “Come on, Callum. It’s only 4 am,” it assures me. “You only have a million and one things to do tomorrow. Go again… you definitely won’t fail this time!” It fills my head with lies… seductive, silver-tongued lies… lies that I definitely won’t listen to for six consecutive, uninterrupted hours on Sunday despite vowing to clean my house…

This weekend I will be a suppurating, striving morass of crumbs and sinkfur, wending its way upward through webs of larval glitter. I will leave it to you to work out whether I am talking about a videogame. Also, I might check out MROI_, a 32-level dream diver from LSDJAM 2024.

Witnessing Misery’s misery unfold this week has sparked a desire to again play Stalker 2, which I really liked in spite of its brokenness, yet haven’t properly revisited while GSC have been fixing it up. Plus, judging from the patch notes, adding about forty thousand new guns. Only got two hands, y’know.

House repairs have lessened over the last week, thankfully, as we wait for replastered walls to dry. So I guess I’ll be playing a little more of Where Winds Meet, which I managed to write some impressions on a while ago. It’s okay, but gosh, do all of those currencies on display do my head in. I sure wish I could use fake in-game money to pay for the remedial works in our kitchen.

For my sins, I’ll be diving back into Wall World 2. I’ve written two articles about its kinks and frustrations, but the developers have released a patch that looks to make the first phase of each run a little less painful. I’ve all eight of my robotic spider legs crossed that it’s made the game sing.
Separately, in my quest to catch up with games released this year, I’ve Citizen Sleeper 2, Consume Me, and Wanderstop all installed and ready to dive into. Whether I can fit that all around Sunday’s dog sitting responsibilities, I just don’t know.

Probably more Mount and Blade II: Bannerlording. I’m now at that awkward stage where you’re just powerful enough to start thinking about wanting a fief to rule, but are only borderline powerful enough to consider taking one on your own. I had a castle briefly as the result of helping out in a war, but that Battanian bastard Caladog proceeded to lose it back to the other side before agreeing to peace. As you might have gleaned, my playthrough’s basically a Monty Python sketch.

As I mentioned above, I’ll be moving house this weekend. Well, technically, I’m moving on Monday morning, but I’ve wisely started to pack everything up in the preceding days. I try to be excited, I try to be happy that my partner and I finally have a house to ourselves, but goshdarnit, I’m gonna miss the unveiling of the new Stella Montis map in Arc Raiders!
And you, reader dear, what are you playing this weekend?…
