Rumor: Pokemon Gen 10 Combat System Leaked

New details on the Generation 10 Pokemon games, believed to be titled Wind and Wave, have leaked online. Pokemon is the most successful media franchise of all time, and so there’s no chance that the main series games will stop releasing new entries any time soon. The Generation 9 Pokemon games were released in 2022 in the form of the open world Scarlet and Violet, and so fans are growing anxious for news on the next generation.

A massive Pokemon leak revealed all kinds of details about the Generation 10 games. According to the leak, the games will be called Pokemon Wind and Wave, will utilize procedurally generated islands, will feature a setting based on Southeast Asia, and will feature weather moves as their battle gimmick. The Gen 10 Pokemon games will introduce new Pokemon, but will also feature notable redesigns for existing Pokemon. Screenshots of the Gen 10 Pokemon games also leaked online, showing that the new games will be taking advantage of the Switch 2 hardware. Despite the Switch 1 having such a massive install base, it is believed that the Generation 10 games will indeed be exclusive to Nintendo’s new console.

New Pokemon Generation 10 Leaks

Now Pokemon content creator Light has shared “alleged new details” about Pokemon Wind and Wave. According to their tweet, Pokemon Wind and Wave will bring back turn-based combat, describing the games’ battle system as “a fluid version” of what was in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Even though the Generation 10 Pokemon games are supposedly ditching Legends: Z-A‘s real-time combat, it’s said that area of effect moves like what’s on display in Z-A will be well accounted for in Wind and Wave.

The real-time battles in Pokemon Legends: Z-A were relatively well-received by fans, so some may be surprised to learn that Wind and Wave will apparently be going back to a turn-based setup. Then again, it makes sense for Game Freak to experiment more with the Pokemon battle system in the Legends sub-series while offering something a little more traditional for the core games that kick off new generations of Pokemon.

When Will the Generation 10 Pokemon Games Be Announced?

For now, it’s best to take any claims about the Generation 10 Pokemon games with a grain of salt. Pokemon fans should always wait for an official announcement before putting too much stock into any claims about future games in the series. Luckily, the wait for more Gen 10 Pokemon news won’t be a terribly long one. It’s highly likely that the Generation 10 Pokemon games will be officially announced next Pokemon Day, set to take place on February 27, 2026. If the leaks are to be believed, the Gen 10 Pokemon games will also be releasing in 2026, with the pair of games expected to arrive exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 at the end of the year.

The Generation 10 Pokemon Games Won’t Be Alone Next Year

Even though the Gen 10 Pokemon games are almost certainly going to be revealed on Pokemon Day next year, fans should still keep their expectations in check. The jury is technically still out whether we will get the Gen 10 games in 2026, but we do know of at least one new Pokemon project on deck for next year.

The Pokemon Pokopia spin-off game is scheduled to launch on March 5 as a Switch 2 exclusive. It’s been compared to games like Animal Crossing and Minecraft, and puts players in the role of a Ditto. Chances are it will also be featured in the inevitable Pokemon Presents event on Pokemon Day 2026, so fans should make sure to tune in.
