Nintendo Switch 2 Gets New System Update for November 2025

Nintendo Switch 2 Gets New System Update for November 2025

Nintendo has released a new system update for the Switch 2, bringing the console to version 21.0.1. Additionally, the original Switch received a new update on November 24. While no new features were added, Nintendo continues to improve the stability for users on Switch 2 and Switch.

2025 has been a big year for Nintendo. The company released the Switch 2 on June 5, ushering in a new hybrid console experience for gamers to check out. Understandably, expectations were high for the system, as it followed the massive success of the 2017 Switch. While Nintendo faced various challenges with the Switch 2 launch, including pricing controversies, it has sold millions of units so far. As the install base for the console grows, new updates are released to improve the user experience.

All Big Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games Releasing In 2025 & Beyond

Fire Emblem, Mario, Animal Crossing, and Elden Ring are just a few upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games that we cannot wait for.

The latest of these updates came on November 24 and brought the system up to version 21.0.1. Beyond the normal general stability improvements, the patch notes revealed a couple of specific fixes that will make life easier for users. Firstly, the update addressed an issue that caused error codes to appear on the Switch when attempting to transfer to a Switch 2 via local communication. Nintendo also fixed an issue that prevented some wireless controllers and Bluetooth audio devices from connecting to the system after using Sleep Mode or turning off Airplane Mode.

It is worth noting that the original Switch has received an update as well. It unsurprisingly addresses the system transfer bug mentioned above and includes general stability improvements. As with past system updates, it is unclear exactly how these general improvements enhance the user experience. Switch and Switch 2 users should have no issues moving their systems to the latest version, as Nintendo notes that it should be automatically downloaded. However, users can check the version status in the System Settings menu to make sure.

This system update comes at a busy time for Nintendo. Kirby Air Riders was released as a Switch 2 exclusive on November 20, offering a new racing game from Masahiro Sakurai in the vein of the original Kirby Air Ride for the GameCube. Furthermore, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is launching on December 4. The game features the latest adventure of Samus Aran and comes following a long development cycle.

While neither game will likely be as big a system seller as Mario Kart World, it will be interesting to see what impact they have on Switch 2 sales. With these and other games coming to Nintendo systems soon, time will tell if Nintendo will release any further system updates before the end of the year.
