Sledgehammer Games’ next mainline Call of Duty title may be headed to the Nintendo Switch 2, some newly surfaced evidence suggests. The prospect of what is likely to be Xbox’s biggest game of 2027 launching on the Switch 2 would reinforce Microsoft’s ongoing multi-platform publishing strategy and align with its previous commitments.

The development of the latest installment in the long-running series—Black Ops 7, released on November 14—was led by Treyarch. According to recent rumors, the 2026 entry is helmed by Infinity Ward, whereas Call of Duty 2027 is most likely spearheaded by Sledgehammer Games, the developer of Modern Warfare 3 (2023). Such a split would align with Activision’s typical studio rotation practices.

Sledgehammer recently posted a job opening for a Senior Technical Artist, which states that the ideal candidate would have experience with mobile or Switch development. The listing, first spotted by Clawsomegamer, indicates that the California-based studio is considering bringing its next big project to Nintendo’s hybrid console. Such a release would significantly bolster the lineup of high-profile shooters on the Switch 2, particularly as market expectations indicate that Sledgehammer’s next Call of Duty could be Xbox’s biggest 2027 title in terms of projected revenue and development budget.

Microsoft’s Call of Duty Publishing Deal with Nintendo Has Yet to Yield Any Switch (2) Games

Although the job listing includes bonus criteria for experience with the original Nintendo Switch, the likelihood of future Call of Duty titles launching on the 2017 console appears minimal. If such a port were technically feasible, the series would likely have already debuted on the Switch, particularly following Microsoft’s late 2022 agreement to bring ten years’ worth of Call of Duty games to Nintendo platforms. That deal was part of a broader wave of commitments Microsoft made to various platform holders—from PlayStation to cloud gaming services—to address regulatory concerns over its then-pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard. However, it has yet to yield any Switch (2) games.

Activision published a dozen Call of Duty games on Nintendo consoles over a nine-year span starting in late 2004. An alternative explanation is that the listing refers to a Switch 2 version of Call of Duty: Warzone, as Sledgehammer previously contributed to the hit smartphone game, and the same line mentioning Switch development experience as a plus also mentions mobile development skills as an alternative.

According to prior leaks, Call of Duty 2027 will either be another Advanced Warfare title or mark the start of an entirely new subseries. Based on Activision’s typical marketing cycle, the game is most likely to be officially revealed in mid-2027 and released in November.
