“The scripts are incredible, and very funny” – Sigourney Weaver confirms she will play Wallace in live-action Tomb Raider series

Sigourney Weaver has confirmed she has accepted a role in Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Earlier this week, it was reported Weaver was in talks to star in the live-action adaptation, but nothing had been finalised at that time. That’s all changed now, though, with Weaver confirming she will join the Tomb Raider cast when filming begins next month.

“I am going to be in Tomb Raider,” the actress revealed to Deadline while on the red carpet for her new film, Avatar: Fire and Ash. “I’m very excited. The scripts are incredible, and very funny, very charming, very witty, as we have come to expect from Ms Waller-Bridge.”

Weaver added she has been a fan of Waller-Bridge’s for a while now, so is “delighted” to be a part of the Tomb Raider series.

The actress also revealed the character she will play is called Wallace. “A famous English name,” she closed, “not always very popular, wouldn’t you say.”

It has been an exciting week for Tomb Raider fans. Along with the recent casting news, which includes Sophie Turner as Lara Croft and British actor Martin Bobb-Semple in an undisclosed “major” role, at this morning’s Game Awards we also got a peep at the new mainline entry from Crystal Dynamics and Amazon.

Known as Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the upcoming game will take Lara to India. Catalyst is expected to release some time in 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam.

In addition, a remake of the original Tomb Raider is also due to be released next year.
