You win some, you lose some, right? Well, not really, especially with the reports of smurfing being on the rise in Marvel Rivals. Many players hoped that this game would be an exception to this unsportsmanlike behavior, but, unfortunately, it isn’t.
What’s the Problem With Smurfing?
Ah, smurfing, one of the most annoying practices one can stumble upon while playing a game. For those of you in the unknown, smurfing is when an experienced player creates a new account to play against low-level players. This behavior is generally frowned upon in the majority of gaming communities. It’s quite unfair and ruins the experience for low-level players.
Well, it’s been more than two months since Marvel Rivals dropped and it was only a matter of time when this would start happening regularly. We’re sorry to say that it has, and new players are already tired of being obliterated by players who obviously have a lot more experience.
Westo6Besto9 noted: “The smurfing has gotten out of control. All these streamers and YouTubers put it into people’s heads that not only is smurfing not bad, but it’s actually great! It lets you learn new characters while everyone else suffers! It’s not like quick play exists or anything. It’s not like Doom Match exists or anything. Oh no no no apparently the only way to really learn a character is to s**t on lower ranks”.

Marvel Rivals Players Support Fair Play
It isn’t at all surprising that the Marvel Rivals community frowns upon smurfing. We all play games to enjoy our free time, to relax, and to unwind. So, it’s quite a terrible feeling to instead run into someone who just obliterates everything. Even if they are on your team.
SpartanKing76 recalled: “I played comp with someone who was Winter Soldier. He had 1.5 hours under his profile and absolutely decimated the other team. We are talking a 50/1 game. He was on my team but even that felt s**t. This was in Gold 2”.
One player, theJSP123, noted: “The problem is that all accounts start in bronze 3. They need placements. Putting everyone all the way at the bottom is stupid and makes the bottom ranks a complete mess”. EzreallyBad67 added: ” If there were placements or smarter LP gains for someone that’s clearly at the wrong rank, this shouldn’t be an issue. Yes, there would still be some stomp games as they get placed, but it would correct itself much quicker”.
What do you think? Would this solve the problem? We think it would actually help a bit, even though those who want to smurf will always find a way, unfortunately. With the second half of Season 1 just starting, we hope that the devs are already working on a solution that’ll come in time for Season 2. Meanwhile, we wish you all the luck in surviving low levels, enjoy as much as you can, and see you out there.
