Naruto: How The Sharingan Lost Its Value In Boruto

Naruto: How The Sharingan Lost Its Value In Boruto

This article contains spoilers from the Naruto series.

Summary

  • Sasuke’s Sharingan powers are underutilized in Boruto, he mostly uses it for reading movements and Chidori.
  • Sarada Uchiha barely taps into the potential of her Sharingan, only using it for Chidori, and Mangekyo Sharingan is neglected.
  • The Uchiha clan’s powerful Sharingan abilities in Naruto are diminished in Boruto, causing disappointment among fans.

The Sharingan is the Kekkei Genkai of the Uchiha clan and most certainly one of the strongest abilities that Kishimoto has introduced in the story. Known to be one of the Three Great Dojutsu, the Sharingan holds tremendous importance in the Naruto series, but unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Boruto series, where, despite this eye being prevalent among two main characters, its importance has been reduced quite a bit.

Boruto has introduced new Dojutsu. Some are more unique than others.

Naturally, fans have been hoping for the Sharingan of the Uchiha to be more important in the story, but with time, all Boruto is proving is that right now, this power is insignificant in front of all the others present in the story. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’ll always be like that, and fans can only hope that things will change eventually in the future.

The Lack Of Sharingan Powers Being Used

Sasuke's Rinnegan and Sharingan

  • Sasuke’s Very Own Sharingan Is Nerfed
  • Sarada Doesn’t Utilize The Sharingan Properly

The Sharingan is a very powerful ability that fans know Sasuke Uchiha is a master of. This Dojutsu is known to be immensely strong, as it can help the user see through Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and even Taijutsu. The Sharingan can copy every movement of the enemy, and all the Jutsu as well, unless it is a Kekkei Genkai or a Hiden ability. The Sharingan also had immensely powerful abilities, such as the power to cast strong Genjutsu, and even seeing the basic form of the chakra system in the body.

How much can you see with that Sharingan of yours? — Itachi Uchiha

Of course, as is clear in the story, the Sharingan has many incredible abilities and great applications. However, Boruto refuses to focus on any of these powers. In the case of Sarada Uchiha, the next-generation leader of the Uchiha in Boruto, fans know for a fact that the Sharingan is incredibly underutilized. Sarada has never copied any technique using this eye, and she hardly ever uses it for what it truly offers. Sarada does tap into the power of the Sharingan, but only for the Chidori, so she can avoid tunnel vision and look out for counters. Other than that, the Sharingan has Ben absolutely useless for Sarada Uchiha, and this isn’t her fault. It is the writer who shows his incompetence time and again in this story.

Kakashi's Sharingan

As for Sasuke, fans know that his powers have been reduced tremendously in Boruto as well. Sasuke Uchiha hardly ever uses any ability other than the Amaterasu, which is utilized maybe once in a blue moon. Other than that, Sasuke only uses the Sharingan to read high-speed movements, and perform Chidori at times. Clearly, even in Sasuke’s case, the Sharingan is incredibly underutilized, and that’s what makes fans incredibly sad. To make things worse, Sasuke even lost his Rinnegan, and now, the only power that he truly has is one Mangekyo Sharingan, which was extremely underutilized to begin with.

Lack Of Mangekyo Sharingan In Boruto So Far

Sasuke And Sarada Need To Step Thier Game Up

Just like the story didn’t give fans a good look at the Sharingan’s basic powers in the Boruto series, the Mangekyo Sharingan doesn’t seem to be any different. Sasuke Uchiha had the Mangekyo Sharingan from the get-go, but he hardly used it in combat, as fans know already. His use of the Mangekyo Sharingan was limited to Amaterasu a couple of times, and Susanoo on two occasions, one of which was in a movie that Kishimoto wrote. The other cake against Jigen during their fight, and it was certainly exciting, to say the least. But, all fans know that this Susanoo was greatly nerfed in battle and its usability was quite low. Shortlist after, Sasuke lost one eye, and all he has left now is one Mangekyo Sharingan. Yet, he’s not used its powers ever since, which is yet another indication of the fact that the Sharingan is incredibly underutilized in the Boruto series.

I want to be the Hokage, like Lord Seventh! — Sarada Uchiha

As for Sarada, the writer, Ikemoto, hasn’t done enough with her at all, so naturally, the Sharingan itself is going to be very underutilized. Sarada was seen awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan long ago in Boruto, yet, after the timeskip, she’s yet to show this power. Fans know that there is a chance that she’ll pull it out soon enough, but as things stand right now, Sarada doesn’t even know she has this eye, as far as fans know.

Boruto Has Let Down This Character Once Again

Boruto is always letting down this character especially.

In a massive world with tons of powerful characters and new exciting power systems, such as the Karma, and also the instruction of scientific technology, along with the Otsutsuki, the Sharingan simply feels a bit too late, which is saddening, to say the least, given that this power was integral to the universe in many ways.

Can Sarada Put The Sharingan Back Where It Belongs?

Sarada Still Has The Chance To Show Her Full Capabilities

Sarada Uchiha, as far as fans know, doesn’t have access to the Mangekyo Sharingan just yet. Although she awakened this power towards the end of Boruto Part 1, she’s yet to show it in Boruto Part 2. This could be because she’s saving it for use against a stronger enemy. However, it can also simply be because she doesn’t know anything about utilizing the eye at all, I’m which case, the frustration of the fans makes even more sense.

That said, one way or another, Sarada will get the Mangekyo Sharingan. When she does unleash its powers, fans can only hope that it is overpowered enough to restore the name of Sharingan-wielding Uchiha. Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan techniques need to be overpowered, just like those of her father, or even higher. If she manages to reach this level, perhaps, Ikemoto will finally start incorporating her more into the story, especially because she will be able to stand side by side with Boruto Uzumaki.

Regardless, Sarada being underwhelming and the Sharingan being consistently nerfed on a regular basis every single time will still be a very sad Boruto truth, but at the very least, it will tell fans that the author is serious about fixing the issues of the Sharingan in the Boruto series. Fans can only hope that the Uchiha clan gets the focus that they deserve and that the Boruto series, in general, improves a lot more with time. For all that to happen, all eyes need to be kept on Sarada Uchiha, the female main character of the Boruto series, as she fights against massive threats, such as Ryu, Hidari, and others.
