The GameSir G7 Pro wipes the floor with its competition in the “pro” gamepad space. It manages to pack in nearly every luxury feature you could want in a modern controller, and with an RRP far lower than your Xbox Elites or your Razer Wolverines.
The features are many: it has two rear paddle buttons, two extra bumpers, a D-pad with three removable plates, and face button microswitches. It comes with a charging dock, inside which you can plug the 2.4 GHz wireless dongle. It also has that most elusive of PC controller technologies—gyro support. But best of all is its anti-drift tech: it ups the ante on the nowadays common Hall Effect analog sticks with “tunnelling magnetoresistance” technology.
That newer tech is stick-drift resistant, which is nice, but the reason it’s better than Hall Effect is its precision: the sticks have smaller dead zones, and not only that, draw less power than Hall Effect sticks. That last point is important—these things will last you for ten hours between charges.
I reviewed the GameSir G7 Pro last year and I still use it every day. Which is why I feel compelled to point out that Amazon is currently selling the G7 Pro for 15% off, bringing it down from AU$159 to AU$135.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen this discount—Black Friday saw the same price cut. It’s not an unprecedented price drop in other words, but if you’re in the market for a controller this is pretty much what you should be getting, and that AU$24 saving is a welcome bonus indeed.
Here are some pics I took of my review sample, which is a different colour to the one being sold at Amazon. Otherwise, it’s exactly the same.
The G7 Pro is great but it isn’t perfect. It has an ultra-fast 1000 Hz polling rate, but you’ll need to download GameSir’s software to actually toggle it on (you otherwise will never need to use that software, which is a relief).
There is no RGB here, in case you want it, and some people might prefer a more conventional four back paddle button layout: as I mentioned above, the G7 Pro has two rear paddle buttons and two extra bumper buttons.
If you can deal with these small annoyances though, it comes highly recommended by us: it tops our list of the best PC controllers.
