Helldivers were presented with a new trolley problem! You might remember the “original” one way back from June 2024. Then, the players had to choose between saving sick children or getting the AT mines. This was also the topic of the most recent episode of Chronicles of J.O.E.L, many players raved they would always pick the children. Well, it’s time for Helldivers to put their money where their mouth is. The High Command issued a new Major Order which gives Helldivers 2 players a choice between saving young adults and finally getting the Gas Mines.
The Major Order Forces Helldivers to Choose Between Young Adults and Gas Mines
The latest Major Order arrived on February 25. Many players were surprised (and excited!) to see that it was quite similar to the trolley problem they faced a while back. As with that previous MO, there is a buffer planet, once it falls, players will have to make the hard choice.
As always, a briefing arrived with the Major Order. It explains that the bots launched an unexpected attack, capitalizing on Helldivers being busy on the bug and Squid fronts. The High Command managed to intercept Automaton communications and discovered there were two targets.
The first target is Duma Tyr, a home to many civilians. The briefing elaborated: “More importantly, this is the site of the ongoing development of MD-8 Gas Mines, which are nearing operational readiness after weeks of delays”.
The second target is Julheim, which is a planet of relatively low strategic importance. However, it turned out that thousands of civilians (presumably young adults) were trapped in the ruins of Good Citizen Andrews’ School for Moderately Feeble Young Adults.
The briefing concludes: “It is unlikely that both planets can be saved. Dividing our forces may lead to the loss of both. The Helldivers – humanity’s most trusted judges – are charged to make this difficult choice”.
So, Helldivers have to choose between the children and the Gas Mines! Thankfully, they have some time to reach a decision. At the time of writing this article, the bots are attacking Bekvam III. Later on, they’ll gain access to both Duma Tyr and Julheim from Bekvam III.
The Choice Is Simple, Right?
If you think about it, Helldivers 2 players will definitely choose the young adults over Gas Mines in this Major Order. Or, will they? Sure, if it comes to having to choose, they’ll most likely go with the young adults.
There are literally thousands of messages of support from Helldivers pledging to do everything in their power to save the “feeble young adults”. The community is staying true to their promise to always protect, as Democracy protects.
However, some Helldivers may have found a possible solution, and maybe they can succeed in saving both the young adults and getting the Gas Mines. You see, to get to either of these planets, the bots have to take Bekvam III. If they don’t take it, both the young adults and the Gas Mines are safe.
At the time of writing this article, Helldivers have around 6 hours left to defend Bekvam III. According to some calculations, they’ll fend off the bots in less than 4 hours. So, is the problem solved? We’ll have to wait and see if there will be any other attacks. In the meantime, you’ll definitely find us on Bekvam III. The community has to unite and work together.
