The Kagurabachi manga by Takeru Hokazono has been the subject of discussions about an anime adaptation for quite some time now. A recent report states that the Shueisha manga’s anime will be co-produced by CyberAgent and Shochiku, with animation by CyberAgent’s subsidiary, Cygames Pictures.
Japanese business magazine Toyo Keizai described Kagurabachi as a “comet,” calling it the industry’s hottest property. Following the massive success of Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen, the anime industry is searching for the next breakout hit, and Kagurabachi seems to be a prime candidate.

A producer quoted in the magazine said, “Titles like Akane-banashi and Kindergarten Wars are unlikely to become cultural phenomena as anime. We’ve nearly run out of promising Jump series for adaptations.”
Another producer added, “It [Kagurabachi] has all the elements to succeed both in Japan and internationally. If adapted into an anime, a hit is almost guaranteed.” Highlighting its overseas buzz, one noted, “The current must-have source material is Kagurabachi. Its buzz overseas is on another level.”
Though no official announcement has been made, Kagurabachi is widely expected to receive an adaptation soon.

The manga, a battle-action series, debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023. It initially gained traction as an internet meme, with users ironically hyping it as the next big thing. Surprisingly, the manga turned out to be genuinely well-received. To date, it has released five compiled volumes and exceeded 1.3 million copies in sales.
