Marvel Rivals: Who Should Be the Next Female Vanguard Character?

Marvel Rivals: Who Should Be the Next Female Vanguard Character?

Marvel Rivals has become a standout game in the hero shooter genre, in large part because of how quickly the game has been adding new characters. After the recent arrival of The Fantastic Four, players are wondering who might be next to join the ranks of Marvel Rivals, and one decision feels like a matter of when, not if.

Bringing the superhero world into the hero shooter arena has made for one of the best Marvel Comics games yet, and it seems that Marvel Rivals is just getting started. With the number of classic, niche, and fan-favorite characters who could join the fray, the development team has chosen to make adding new characters a frequent occurrence, giving players something to look forward to about once a month. The latest additions saw the ranks of The Fantastic Four completed as Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman were joined by The Human Torch as a new duelist character with The Thing becoming Marvel Rivals’ newest Vanguard hero. But, with his addition, there are now 9 Vanguard characters, only one of whom is female, making players wonder when another powerful woman will join the battle.

Fans of Marvel Rivals will have plenty of updates to look forward to in the coming years, according to developer NetEase Games.

Which Female Character Should be Marvel Rivals’ Next Vanguard Hero

Captain Carter

Peggy Carter is best known as the love interest to Steve Rogers’ Captain America, but occasionally, she joins the fight as a hero of her own. While a few versions of Captain Carter have been seen in small roles in comics, she’s best known as a recurring character in one of the best Marvel animated series, What If…? Her story sees her receiving the Super Soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. Since Captain America is already a Vanguard character himself, his female counterpart would fit into the grouping as well. If she is based on her What If…? version, she could even take attack inspiration from her powers as a Guardian of the Multiverse, giving her enough of a distinction from Captain America to stand out.

She-Hulk

She-Hulk’s recent turn in the public eye may have been a bit controversial, but she remains one of Marvel’s most interesting characters. With the strength of the Hulk and the intelligence that he lacks, she’s a powerhouse hero who maintains a tactical mind, allowing her to hit just as hard as Hulk, but with more strategy and precision. She’s also been breaking the fourth wall for most of her time on the pages, which could translate into unique moves and commentary. With so much comic history, there are plenty of powerful versions of She-Hulk in the multiverse, and one of them deserves a stop in the Marvel Rivals roster sooner rather than later.

Angela

A relatively new Marvel character, Angela made her first Marvel appearance in 2013 after originating in Image’s Spawn comics. She was introduced as the long-lost sister of Thor and Loki. As an Asgardian, she possesses God-like strength and speed. Coupled with her time as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, she no doubt has what it takes to hold her own alongside her brothers. Despite her lack of name recognition, it’s likely that she will be added at some point, as leakers have found hints at Angela’s inclusion in the game’s files. There’s no news about what type of hero she might become, but Vanguard feels like a strong possibility.

As the hero class with the fewest number of characters, Vanguards are often overlooked in the current meta. Especially with their difficulty attacking flying enemies, players have been vocal about wanting changes to the Vanguard class, such as better ranged capability. Marvel has no shortage of characters to adapt, with characters like the X-Men, Inhumans, and Guardians of the Galaxy still underrepresented. Many powerful heroes would fit the Marvel Rivals Vanguard mold, so hopefully developers plan on adding more in the near future. With decades of strong women to choose from, the diversity of the Vanguard heroes will hopefully be growing alongside the game’s roster.
