“There’s Place for Improvement” Some Steam Deck Users Are Disappointed With the Performance of Marvel Rivals

Ever since it was released on December 6, 2024, Marvel Rivals became an instant fan-favorite. Also, this game has already been nominated for a prestigious award. So, it’s disappointing that even though Marvel Rivals is technically playable on the Steam Deck, the majority of users reported its performance wasn’t stellar.

Some Steam Deck Users Can’t Stand Playing Marvel Rivals

So, what’s the problem with the performance of Marvel Rivals on the Steam Deck? If you haven’t had the chance to play this game on your Steam Deck yet, you might have even heard that it runs well. However, some players have higher standards than others.

Recently, one player called out the community for insisting that this game was playable when it didn’t run well. Hzain001 wondered: “How are people playing Marvel Rivals on this? I mean, I tried running it with whatever settings I could and used all kinds of in-game upscaler tech that was available but the game still looks like c**p”.

Litteral hundreds of people agreed with this statement, as Steam Deck users weren’t able to solve this mystery. Many players claimed they gave up on the game, as it was almost impossible to play, let alone enjoy.

Some Players Don’t Mind the Game’s Performance

To each their own! As it turns out, there are still many Steam Deck users who enjoy playing Marvel Rivals even though its performance is less than perfect. Now, we suppose that the players in question might have previous experience with consoles and thus manage their expectations. This is why Steam Deck is popular with adults who started their gaming journeys back in the ’80s and ’90s.

ChromDelonge noted: “For me, I think it’s growing up with handheld versions of PC/Console games being totally different and massively scaled-down games running a couple of generations behind. So even if a game is running low settings at 30fps on the Steam Deck, it still blows my mind a little and I am able to forgive a lot haha”.

One player, iPlayViolas, suggested: “My theory is a high number of Steam Deck gamers who are playing these kinds of games on the Deck use it as their primary gaming device. They likely have less experience with high refresh rate / high detail gaming”.

Even though the performance of Marvel Rivals isn’t fantastic, there are plenty of players who still manage to enjoy playing it on their Steam Deck. Of course, we hope the devs are working hard on resolving these performance issues so that everyone will be able to enjoy the game. So, let’s give them some time and we’re sure soon enough this game will fit even the highest standards. And for all of you who already enjoy it, keep on playing, and see you around!
