It took almost a year, but Monster Hunter Wilds’ performance issues have been fixed, and fans are in awe: ‘What the heck did they do?!’

Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom’s latest in this long-running action series, seems to have finally overcome its performance woes that have plagued the game since release. Plunging it to overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam, Wilds‘ performance problems have taken a year to be fixed, but Capcom has finally found a way.

Monster Hunter Wilds‘ Jan. 28 patch, exclusive for the PC version of the game, has addressed major performance issues that have been in the game since it first released on Feb. 28, 2025. For many people, this rendered the title nigh-unplayable. Lag, low fps, stutters, crashes, all of it was the norm in Capcom’s latest, which led to the game garnering an “overwhelmingly negative” label on Steam.

Today, though, the winds blow more favorably, as Capcom appears to have ironed out all the major problems the game had, prompting players to immediately turn heel and start bombing the game with positive reviews. It’s now at “mixed,” and only stands to keep rising as time goes by.

Over on social media, folks are outright flabbergasted at what Capcom has done. “What the heck did they do this update?!” reads one post on the Monster Hunter subreddit.

“Every performance issue I’ve had is fixed. I’m running max setting without framegen at a buttery smooth 120 fps,” the player said. Others echoed this sentiment: “The game looks and feels so much better it’s amazing.”

A few considered that Capcom took nearly a year to do this, with the game being in a semi-playable state at best, even on high-end hardware, for all that time. “It was about f**king time! Took them almost a year!” said one frustrated player, though I have to say it’s better to have it fixed eventually than never (which did happen in the case of many, many games throughout the last decade or so).

So, if you were on the fence about MHW since last February, now’s a great time to hop on. When it does work (and that seems to be the norm now), MHW has a lot to offer, and its core gameplay loop is an experience you won’t find in many other titles.
