Bad News Ahoy – The First Descendant Devs Will End The Support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Some sacrifices have to be made. Nexon has announced that they will end PlayStation 4 and Xbox One support for The First Descendant.

Since its release, The First Descendant has been playable on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, via GeForce Now, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows via Steam. Having a game available for both current and last-gen consoles is great for the players but can make the devs’ job more difficult, for having to optimize everything new for both “eras” of consoles. And it looks like Nexon had its fill of it and has just announced that the support for last-gen consoles will be terminated in the coming months.

End of The First Descendant Support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

We just had a live broadcast with the heads of TFD, where they revealed the details about Serena, talked about the upcoming new Area, revealed upcoming skins, and more. But it’s not all happy and joy as they reluctantly had to make a sad announcement: The support for last-gen consoles will be terminated in June 2025.

According to the devs, “this is something that you might have expected. We do have a handful of players playing on PS4 and Xbox One, and we would like to sincerely apologize to these players.”

“While considering ways for TFD to step up its game again…you know, we made big changes with much reluctance. One of them was increasing the scale of the dev team to the next level. Another is changing the direction for the major updates. And the last change is terminating the support for the old consoles.”

They continue by providing the reasoning behind it: “The dev team does experience difficulties; we made lot effort in sustaining the build for PS4 and Xbox One. But since Season 3 is a ‘mega season’ update for us, and what we wanted to do is really focus our development team on increasing the satisfaction of the content, so this was a hard decision for us.”

As for the technicalities, on March 20, they will post an official notice and details, and the final termination of the PS4/Xbox One support will happen on June 19, 2025. The silver lining is that your account will still be active, and you can continue playing TFD on other platforms, like PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S.

While this decision is understandable, the devs want to up their game after all, reducing the number of players is hardly something that they can afford right now. Hopefully, the new S2E2 and the Saeason 3 will turn the situation around and bring the players back.
