Currently, it’s unclear if Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies will be getting a super Easter egg quest like with previous entries in the franchise. The concept technically began with Black Ops 1, as players needed items from other maps to do the second half of Moon’s main quest. Black Ops 2 featured a proper ending for Buried depending on whether players finished the other Victis maps’ quests, while Black Ops 3 offered a permanent RK5 and Takeo’s sword as a wall buy on Revelations for those who finished the game’s other Easter eggs. Black Ops 4 skipped the concept, with it returning in Black Ops Cold War and seeing players rewarded with increased starting weapon rarity.
Though there is no official word on Black Ops 6 having a super Easter egg of its own, current Zombies lead Kevin Drew did hype up fans back in 2022 by suggesting that Treyarch’s “next game” will raise the bar in regard to the super Easter egg concept. This comment came in response to former Infinity Ward developer Lee Ross celebrating Infinite Warfare Zombies’ Super Easter egg on social media, which many fans view as the best take on the concept despite it happening outside of Treyarch’s games. While there are plenty of things that made Infinite Warfare’s super Easter egg shine, like a bonus boss battle and an alternate mode of play, it’s the special Willard Wyler playable character that arguably stood out the most. If Treyarch wants to recapture the magic of IWZ, it will have to provide its own secret character to completionists. Fortunately, it has a perfect stand-in via Edward Richtofen.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies’ Next Map Can’t Omit Two Easter Egg Types Like the Tomb
CoD Zombies fans criticized the Tomb for feeling unfinished, which is a complaint the next Black Ops 6 can dodge by including these Easter eggs.
Edward Richtofen as a Bonus Operator in Black Ops 6 Zombies
Treyarch has taken its time getting Richtofen properly involved in the Black Ops 6 Zombies maps thus far, but there are high hopes that he will be prominent within the Mansion map and beyond. When he does show his face, there is plenty that fans would like to see from him, with in-game conversations, access to his Wunderwaffe DG-2 Wonder Weapon, and an eventual boss fight being some things on gamers’ wish list. Perhaps the most notable request of all is that many would love to play as Eddie in Black Ops 6, something that would be the perfect surprise reward for completing all the main quest Easter eggs in the game.
There is precedent for a character deeply involved in the Zombies storyline to become a playable Call of Duty Operator, with Samantha Maxis in Black Ops Cold War being a prime example. While there were some awkward moments seeing Sam interact with Sam in cutscenes, these could be dodged in the latest release due to the maps in Black Ops 6 having a set crew for big narrative beats. Plus, even with that downside, gunning down the undead in Zombies and other players in multiplayer and Warzone while controlling Samantha was something longtime fans adored. Considering that 2018’s Black Ops 4 was the last time a Richtofen variant was playable, making Eddie an Operator would be a massive burst of nostalgia. And with Call of Duty 2025 supposedly bringing back the four classic CoD Zombies characters, controlling Eddie would basically be a tease of what is to come.
While making Richtofen a free unlock through Black Ops 6 Easter egg completion may seem unlikely, as a store bundle featuring him would surely be a big source of revenue, it would be a genuinely exciting reward that feels like it was worth the chase. Alternate looks based on his previous experiences could always be sold through the store, too.
Edward Richtofen Could Be the Key to More Secrets Within BO6 Zombies
However, if Treyarch wants to top Infinite Warfare’s super Easter egg, a secret Operator like Eddie would just be one piece of the puzzle. Fortunately, given his status as Requiem Director and the leader of Project Janus, playing as Eddie could unlock new content and big quality-of-life features. He could flex his status to get cheaper door buys, while workbench creations could cost less due to his genius intellect. Perhaps secret doors containing side quests, like Maya’s bonus cutscene in Citadelle Des Morts, could be unlocked via a special keycard held by Eddie. Additionally, bonus conversations on older maps could play out if Richtofen is used, with big reveals for lore aficionados as Eddie chats with characters like Panos or Dr. Modi during main quests. With so much upside, hopefully Treyarch considers using Eddie as the payoff to a Black Ops 6 super Easter egg.
