Pokemon Fan Art Imagines Human Forms for Caterpie, Metapod, and Butterfree

A passionate Pokemon fan has re-imagined a trio of classic Pokemon from the franchise’s early days in human forms, re-designing Caterpie, Metapod, and Butterfree. The beloved monster-catching series stands as one of the biggest multimedia empires in the world, seeing huge success across its many different branches since its debut in the late 1990s. Pokemon‘s global popularity has spawned everything from a plethora of video games and a wildly successful trading card game to a cherished animated series that has spanned 28 seasons. The iconic status of the series has also inspired legions of fans worldwide to take their own spin on the series.

Pokemon and its wide cast of creatures has often served as an inspiration for fans to create their own tributes to its cast of characters. The series has often seen fans create their own designs for new Pokemon, regional variants for older creatures, and a variety of fan games based on Pokemon. The franchise has even led some passionate fans to start their own unusual collections for the series, including one fan attempting to collect every copy of a classic Kabuto card. Now, a creative Pokemon fan has reimagined some of the franchise’s first Bug Pokemon in new human forms.

Pokemon Fan Creates Impressive Caterpie Redesigns

A post shared to the Pokemon subreddit by Reddit user TheGoblinCodex is showing off their creative interpretation of the Caterpie evolutionary line. The stunning piece of artwork reimagines Caterpie and its two evolutions, Metapod and Butterfree, in human forms inspired by elements of high fantasy, with Caterpie wearing a cap inspired by the Pokemon’s head and a large backpack. The redesigned Metapod features the same Caterpie cocooned within a transparent chrysalis, before emerging in a fully transformed form as Butterfree, complete with Butterfree’s iconic wings and new armor. The Reddit user even provides a backstory for their unique Caterpie design, detailing the story of Caterpie making a “pact” to transform into a Butterfree.

The impressive Caterpie redesign is not the first time the Reddit user has reimagined beloved Pokemon in human forms. The title of the post reveals that the Reddit user is creating human re-imaginings of every Pokemon from the franchise’s first generation, previously sharing designs for the Bulbasaur evolutionary line alongside the other Kanto Starter Pokemon. Each past creation has also similarly had a high fantasy theme, including a backstory for how the Pokemon evolves in its human form. The user also teased Weedle’s redesign as their next project, hinting at a darker theme for Caterpie’s counterpart.
