GOG: The Digital Storefront Is Giving Away the ‘Alone in the Dark’ Trilogy, Including a ‘Bonus Adventure’

Digital videogame storefront GOG is giving away the horror trilogy Alone in the Dark. The trilogy will be available for free till February 5, 2026.

It also comes in with a “bonus adventure” called Jack in the Dark.

Alone in the Dark is centered around Derceto, a “legendary Louisiana mansion”. However, players are “drawn into a world of shadows to explore the darker side of Jeremy Hartwood’s imagination.” In the titles, players “quest” for the truth drives them to investigate the mansion. The first title in the trilogy came out in the year 1992.

GOG Employee Confirms Use of AI

A few days ago, GOG came under fire for using an AI-generated image to promote a sale, a move that many people did not like. Following the backlash, a GOG employee has now confirmed that the image was created “with the help of AI tools.”

In a screenshot shared to Kotaku of GOG’s Patron Discord server, the employee, Arthur Slay, wrote, “This banner was a work-in-progress asset that we mistakenly allowed to be displayed on the storefront.”

The employee added, “I want to confirm that this WIP asset was indeed made with the help of Al tools.”

“I also want to be honest about how we chose to explore technology: We don’t have the infinite resources of the industry giants,” the message reads. “We’re a dedicated, but small team, working our asses off every day for game preservation.”

They further added that GOG has been “testing different technologies” since the beginning, with some experiments being successful “and some (like this banner) are not.”
