Doing quests fair and square is not for everyone, unfortunately. Some Monster Hunter Wilds players found an underhanded trick to cheese the hunt times and cheat their way to the top.
If you are a gamer (and we can safely presume that you are), it is almost impossible not to hear about Monster Hunter Wilds. The latest game from Capcom is taking the scene by storm, even surpassing Split Fiction, another hit game that was recently released. As you’d imagine, the gist of MHW is hunting huge monsters. Sure, the visuals are stunning, and there are different weapons you can use and various NPC you can talk to, but it all boils down to fighting the toughest monsters as best you can. There are unofficial leaderboards for the fastest hunts, and naturally, some players focus on being as effective as possible. But some of those resort to sneaky and underhanded tactics to achieve the best scores possible.
“Finish a Hunt in Less Than Two Seconds?” There Is an Underhanded Trick To Cheese the Hunt Times in Monster Hunter Wilds
It has come to our attention that there is a…dishonorable way of making the fastest hunts possible, and that is using poison. To elaborate, in MHW, poison damage does ot count as an attack, ie, it will not trigger the fight/quest. The game considers it “environmental” damage.
So, knowing that, players have resorted to using poison ammo to, well, poison their targets. It will gradually lower the monster’s HP without starting the battle “timer”. So they just poson the monsters from a safe distance, or run circles around it, while waiting for the poison to do its work. Once the HP is low enough, the players simply charge the monster, start the battle properly, and fell it with a hit or two. Letting the HP get too low runs the risk of killing the monster without properly beginning the quest. So, as far as the game is concerned, the fight lasted for the amount of time needed to swing the weapon, usually 1-2 seconds.
While this is, realistically, far from the fastest way to hunt (it can take about 10 minutes), it is an underhanded way of cheesing the hunt times and getting you to the top of the leaderboards. For now, Capcom hasn’t done anything about it, but realistically, they will notice that something is off sooner or later. In the meantime, you are free to use this trick, if you are so inclined.
