Gachiakuta Plot and Background Information
Studio BONES’ Next Shōnen Anime Project
Gachiakuta is set in a dystopian world where society’s poor live in the slums of a floating city called the Sphere, a place populated by rich people living a decadent life; one where both trash and society’s “undesirables” are cast into an endless abyss. Rudo, a teenage outcast known to be the biological son of a heinous criminal, has his life turned upside down when he is framed for the murder of his adoptive father and exiled to the wasteland below known only as “The Pit”. After surviving the fall, Rudo is confronted with the terrifying reality of the world below, which is littered with “Trash Beasts”, horrible monsters made out of the garbage that has been falling to the surface from the Sphere. In order to crawl back up to the surface and make whoever killed his father and pinned it on him pay, Rudo must band together with a group known as “Cleaners”, individuals who have mastered a strange power that is integral to survival in this world of filth.
Gachiakuta stands out as one of the most unique shonen anime in recent years, blending intense action with a striking artistic style. Crunchyroll is proud to partner with Kodansha and Bones Film to bring this exciting new story to fans worldwide, exclusively to the Crunchyroll streaming service.
