My Hunter turned into the moon…
While the map shows the time of day and the monster population, one crucial detail it leaves out is the ever-changing moon phases. Tracking these stages is essential for farming Nightflower Pollen, a valuable resource for crafting rare gear. Let’s break down all moon phases in Monster Hunter Wilds.
MH Wilds moon phases, explained
The skies of the Forbidden Lands display seven moon phases, which will change each day. You can simply walk outside at night to see what phase is active. The game doesn’t exactly explain what each of them means, so here’s an explanation for each moon phase:
The Nightflower Pollen will only appear during the Full Moon, so you’ll need to wait for this phase to get them to bloom. I found it best to explore zones like Windward Plain’s Area 4 (above level) during the Evening and then wait for the pollen to bloom. Some quests can also help you reach the Full Moon faster; however, it’s not always guaranteed now that Nightflower Pollen farming has been nerfed. This method previously allowed players to activate the Full Moon phase with the Desert Knows Not the Sea quest. But now, the phases are randomized during missions and won’t always spawn in the pollen.

The other phases hold little significance on their own, serving mostly as markers to help you track where you are in the week cycle. For example, if you’re on the Waxious Gibbious phase, you’re only one day away (in-game time) from the Full Moon.
How to change moon phases fast in MH Wilds
While you could just live out each day to change the moon phases naturally, you can speed up the process by resting at your Base Camp or Portable BBQ Grill. When you unlock High Rank (raise your Hunter Rank), you’ll unlock this feature at the postgame stage. Just change the Environment Overview to ‘Evening’/’Nighttime’ and ‘Plenty’ to get the most materials and monsters. It’ll cost you 300 Guild Points each time, so you may need to complete some missions to farm these points.

Those who use the Portable BBQ Grill will wake up at the nearest Base Camp. If you want to stick around the same spot, I suggest resting at a Pop Up Camp instead. That way, you can save yourself traveling time.
‘Can’t change moon phase’ fix
Some players have noted that the moon phases don’t change despite initiating the rest method. If this is happening to you, you may need to progress in the main campaign or re-load the main menu. Occasionally, quests will have the same cycle repeatedly, so you’ll likely need to focus on the main story. Or, you can try to re-load the main menu to give it a refresher.
