According to Leaks, Pokemon Legends: Z-A Is Poised to Continue a Sad 11-Year Streak

Summary

  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A may feature 27 new Mega Evolutions, including Mega Zeraora and Mega Chandelure.
  • Fans may be disappointed, as Pokemon Legends: Z-A is rumored to exclude a Mega Evolution for the popular critter Flygon.
  • The leaked Mega Evolutions suggest that Pokemon Legends: Z-A may not include a Mega Evolution for Flygon, despite its Mega being scrapped in Gen 6.

Although the game is set to come out late in 2025, most likely between September and November if past Pokemon games are any indication, Pokemon Legends: Z-A recently went through a myriad of leaks regarding its critters and Mega Evolutions. Pokemon Legends: Z-A may have Mega Excadrill, for example, which is what started the recent storm of leaks online after Mega Victreebel last week. According to the leaks, the game will have 27 new Mega Evolutions, many of which may be unexpected, and some not so much. However, it appears that the game will continue an unfortunate trend that started 11 years ago, all the way back with Gen 6 games.

Some new Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Evolutions were spoiled with the TeraLeak data breach, which included mentions of Mega Zeraora and Mega Zygarde. The latter is not truly a surprise, given its presumed role in the story based on the game’s title, but Mega Zeraora was an interesting surprise due to the franchise only having another Mythical Pokemon with a Mega in the form of Diancie. Even then, 27 new Megas total is quite impressive, and a lot of fans wanted an ORAS underdog to finally get it – but it seems this won’t be the case.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is Rumored to Skip Mega Flygon Again

After Gen 6 games were released, Mega Evolutions came back with a bang with Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. These remakes added several popular Megas to the franchise and reignited the hype for the gimmick to return in the future. It was later revealed that Flygon was supposed to get a Mega Evolution, but this never happened. With Megas announced for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, fans wanted to finally see Mega Flygon after so many years since its missed debut, but the recent leaks paint a bleak picture for the Dragon-type critter, as it doesn’t seem to get a Mega Evolution.

This is sad news for fans of the Ground/Dragon-type critter, especially seeing how Flygon was supposed to get a Mega Evolution alongside other popular Gen 3 mons. There are various reasons why this might be the case, assuming the Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega leaks are true. For starters, Game Freak may not have settled on a design that pleased everyone for Mega Flygon, and with so much hype from fans, it may have failed to meet expectations. Another reason could be that Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Pokedex focuses on different critters, and the goal was to add unexpected Megas.

An example is the leaked Mega Victreebel in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is for an otherwise not particularly popular critter in any aspect of the title, be it collecting or battling. Instead, Flygon is a Pokemon with a competitive battling pedigree, so giving it more love ahead of Pokemon Champions‘ returning battle gimmicks and potential VGC approach may have been overkill compared to less-used pocket monsters. It is a shame to deny Flygon a Mega Evolution now that the franchise is returning to Kalos, though, especially if there are no plans to bring back Megas in future mainline games.

Flygon May Get The Short End of the Stick in PLZA

It’s unclear at this stage how accurate the leaks are, with some being based on riddles shared by renowned Pokemon insider Riddle Khu, whereas others are from different sources. However, if legit, this is a strange choice considering how many fans were vocal and hopeful about Mega Flygon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. It can feel even stranger if there are truly 27 new Megas in the game, rather than just a handful. To add insult to injury, it’s very likely that Flygon won’t even get a regional form or some other kind of new tools, as it’s rumored that PLZA will only include base critters and Megas with no other added forms or new species of Pokemon. Fans will have to wait and see, but so far, it seems Flygon will once more stay out of the loop for Megas.
