“I pray they are cursed to never play the game again” Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya goes off on Resident Evil Requiem leakers

Resident Evil Requiem is almost here, but that hasn’t stopped evildoers from dropping lots of spoilers all over the Internet, prompting Capcom to acknowledge the situation ahead of the final weekend before the game’s launch. Meanwhile, Resident Evil 2 director (and famous games industry bad boy) Hideki Kamiya had stronger words for the leakers.

Through his X/Twitter account, the creative commented on the ongoing drama and launched a personal attack against the folks who are ruining other fans’ fun before the game hits both the shelves and digital storefronts. GamesRadar+ translated the post, but you can find the original one below:

First, he pointed out RE2 actually went through something similar due to a magazine’s poor handling of pre-release leaks: “Towards the end of development on Resident Evil 2, I’m sure there were some leaks that were exposed in a weekly magazine.” Mind you, being aware of leaks (and even resharing them) isn’t uncommon these days, but things were different back in the day. Still, actual plot spoilers, especially so close to a game’s release, are in bad taste in my opinion.

Regardless, the RE Requiem leaks are coming from less official sources and aren’t a matter of an outlet slipping up. Thus, cracking down on the leakers is far more difficult. Kamiya said there’s almost nothing to gain from leaks that ultimately hurt those who worked hard on the games: “Trampling on the feelings of the people who are looking forward to the game, and the creatives who worked so hard to make it… Destroying everyone’s joy, just for these assholes’ self-gratification.”

Towards the end of his port, the developer’s meaner side reappeared: “Should you commit these contemptible acts, you deserve to die ten thousand deaths,” he declared before going with a softer alternative that’s just praying “they are cursed to never play the game again.”

It must be noted Kamiya is a much friendlier individual in person, but he’s well-known for his harsh attitude online, one which, if you ask me, is often justified based on who/what he often has to deal with.
