Super Sentai is the beloved classic Japanese Tokusatsu superhero show which Power Rangers is based on. The series has recently reached its official conclusion, but ran for over fifty years before that. Over the show’s enormous runtime, there was a plethora of Red Senshi, some popular and others… not so much. While certain Red Senshi are clearly more powerful, certain iterations rely on inner-strength to get ahead.
Many Super Sentai characters have Power Rangers counterparts, but that doesn’t mean their powers are exactly the same. There is a fair bit of difference between the adaptations besides them using the same footage. More often than not, a Red Senshi is leagues more powerful than their Power Ranger counterpart. Yet, not every Red Senshi is created equally, as the series often likes to point out.

Diago Kiryu Is One of the Physically Strongest Red Senshi in Super Sentai as Kyoryu Red
Zyuden Sentai Kyoyuger
Diago “King” Kiryu is likely the physically strongest Red Senshi in Super Sentai. In order to become the Red Kyoyuger, King must first defeat his Zord in physical combat. The duo battle for a straight month before Diago eventually takes the title. Even when there is some discrepancy about whether Diago deserves the role, he absolutely refuses to give up.
Best Power Rangers Series, Ranked
From the Mighty Morphin to Ninjas and Samurai, the best Power Rangers seasons offer great mecha action and awesome characters,
In terms of abilities, King possesses very similar attacks to his Power Ranger counterpart, albeit with very different names. Diago is also a very accomplished traveler, which gives him a greater confidence when leading the Rangers. He might be relatively new to the Sentai mythos, but he proves that he has come prepared, especially where physical strength is concerned.

Taro Momoi is Incredibly Skilled as Don Momotaro
Avataro Sentai Donbrothers
Taro Momoi is Don Momotaro and the leader of the interesting Donbrothers. Unlike previous and future Sentai, Donbrothers features completely computer-generated characters. Moreover, many of the senshi are far more physically unique than in previous series. The series definitely has a lighter tone, but that doesn’t mean the Donbrothers are weaker than other Sentai.
Power Rangers: 10 Best Yellow Rangers, Ranked
The Yellow Rangers are usually the glue which holds each Power Rangers team together, but some are clearly more talented than others.
Like many other Red Senshi, Don Momotaro is an expert marksman and swordsman. However, his main skills come from the fact that he exists in a less-serious Senshi adaptation. His iteration is less strict with its rules, meaning that Don Momotaro has access to some hilarious, but devastating attacks. He noticeably doesn’t have a Power Rangers counterpart, but that has more to do with Donbrothers absurd nature than anything else.

Yamato Kazakiri Has Access to Many Powerful Animal-Based Abilities as Zyuoh Eagle
Doubutso Sentai Zyuohger
Yamato Kazakiri is one of the most interesting animal-based Sentai within the franchise. He might not have the martial arts expert of later Sentai, but he has access to some devastatingly powerful transformations. He even has multiple different forms that he can transform into without issue. Kazakiri also has a fourth and even more powerful form that he can access when fused with his ally, Bud.
Kazakiri has access to each of his various animal forms with distinct powers which give him an edge in battle. He has mastery over the land, sea, and air, meaning there aren’t many places he’s at a disadvantage. He might not have the same arsenal as future Rangers, but Kazakiri still possesses some truly impressive animal-based techniques.

Takeru Shiba Spends His Life Training to Become Shinken Red
Samurai Sentai Shinkenger
Takeru Shiba has been training to be the Red Shinkenger all his life. In actuality, the plot of Samurai Sentai Shinkenger and Power Rangers Samurai are actually frighteningly similar. In contrast, despite being one of the least popular seasons of Power Rangers, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger is universally beloved. One of the main reasons for this praise is the series’ lead, Takeru Shiba.
Like his Power Rangers adaptation, Shiba has some of the most forms out of any Red Senshi. He is also an extremely talented swordsman. Sadly, Shiba suffers from a lot of self-doubt due to his interesting undertaking of the role. Technically, his sister is the one meant to take the job, making Takeru often feel out of place or like an impostor. That said, he more than earns his place as the leader of the Samurai Shinkengers.

Jan Kandou Has the Ability to Seal Away Dark and Evil Entities as GekiRed
Juken Sentai Gekiranger
Jan Kandou is an extremely gifted martial artist with several key details decidedly different than his Power Rangers combatant. While the Red Jungle Fury Ranger is new to the role, Kandou has been raised by tigers his entire life. If there’s anyone suited to the Tiger animal spirit, it’s Kandou. He also eventually conquers the power of the Shark Spirit, somewhat similar to his Power Rangers counterpart.
In addition to his impressive skills, Kandou also possesses the ability to seal away evil entities. This alone makes him one of the most powerful characters in the mythos. He could seal away nearly any previous enemy in the series without a second thought. He regularly appears throughout the series, but never reaches the same heights as he does in Juken Sentai Gekiranger.

Kai Ozu Has Very Real and Potent Magical Abilities as MagiRed
Mahou Sentai Magiranger
Kai Ozu is one of the most powerful Red Senshi based solely on the fact that they have access to literal Magic. Ozu actually has fewer transformations than his Power Rangers companion, but he makes much better use of them. He also changes from MagiRed to Magishine later in his career.
Ozu makes several appearances in later Sentai series, but none as significant as the original series. That said, he is one of the few Senshi to actually defeat another iteration of the franchise, after his original series. Kai might not be the most popular in Japan due to its fantasy focus, but Kai remains one of the strongest Magic-based rangers in the series.

Alata Is a Literal Angel by Super Sentai Standards as Gosei Red
Tensou Sentai Goseiger
Alata is indefinitely more powerful than his Power Rangers counterpart, since he is a literal angel. Since he is a more recent Sentai adaptation, Alata features in nearly every recent iteration of the show. On top of his angelic status, Alata is also frighteningly powerful and even features a dramatic super mode. One of Alata’s most powerful skills is easily his ability to see the “True Essence” of any object around him.
The angel understands if people are lying, knows their intentions before they speak, and can even predict the future to a strict degree. He also has wind-based powers which he regularly utilizes to great effect. He might not be the most notable of the Red Senshi, but his powers alone make him a frightening combatant.

Lucky Has the Galaxies’ Support in Addition to His Frightening Skills as Shi Shi Red
Uchi Sentai Kyuranger
Lucky, also known as ShiShi Red, is frighteningly powerful despite his more modest personality. He has the entire galaxy supporting him and even becomes the king at one point. He has a frightening number of forms, for a senshi, and regularly transforms to suit the situation’s needs. He and the other Kyurangers are based on constellations, giving them some incredible powers.
The 30 Most Iconic Anime Characters Who Dual Wield Weapons
Nothing is more impressive than wielding two weapons at once, and these cool anime characters prove that with their dual-wielding skills.
Lucky leads one of the largest Sentai teams in existence and always seems to have the upper hand. In addition to being related to the Legendary Warrior, he is also a gifted combatant. His fighting style even dramatically changes based on his transformation. That said, he is somewhat useless without access to his senshi powers.
2
Gira Husty Is Technically Immortal as the Kuwagata Ohger
Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger
Gira Husty is without a doubt the strongest senshi without a Power Rangers adaptation. They are essentially immortal and can never die by conventional means. There are specific ways to kill him, but he typically cannot be killed by anything except for aging. The character also possesses extreme regeneration.
10 Best Red Power Rangers, Ranked
The Red Rangers are usually the strongest and most capable members of every Power Rangers team, but that isn’t always the case.
In addition to impressive durability, the Kuwagata Ohger is frighteningly strong. He, like other senshi, eventually becomes the king of his own kingdom, but only rises to that occasion after impressive displays of power. Husty is also very visually distinct compared to any other senshi in the series.

Captain Marvelous Has the Power of Every Previous Red Senshi as Gokai Red
Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
Captain Marvelous is a fascinating case among the senshi. Like his American counterpart, Captain Marvelous has access to every previous Red Senshi form. This means he has the most unlimited potential out of the senshi and is also one of the most popular. That said, he isn’t strictly a good guy. Marvelous takes his pirate role rather seriously. He craves fame and fortune above all else.
Marvelous has appeared in nearly every movie and special since his release. He has become a pivotal part of the franchise, for good reason. There are even many who consider him the greatest Red Senshi. Powers aside, it says a lot that he can access any previous Senshi’s powers and use them more creatively than they could utilize them originally.
