A Pokemon fan is showing off their stunning design for a Paradox form of the classic Legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh. The long-running monster-catching franchise’s array of recognizable creatures has often been a source of inspiration for fans to create their own tributes to the library of more than 1,000 Pokemon. Pokemon fans have created everything from humanoid forms of their favorite Pokemon to creative craft projects inspired by beloved Pokemon, like Pikachu, Charizard, and the Eeveelutions. However, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet gave fans a brand-new outlet for redesigning their favorites.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet put a brand-new twist on some of its new creatures with the introduction of Paradox Pokemon. The games set in the Paldea region feature a variety of Paradox Pokemon that players can find within Area Zero, including both past and future variants of several Pokemon. Scarlet and Violet‘s Indigo Disk expansion also added some new Paradox versions of multiple popular Legendary Pokemon, including new versions of Johto’s Legendary Dogs and Unova’s Swords of Justice. Now, one fan is sharing their take on a Paradox version of a fan-favorite Legendary from Pokemon‘s early days.
Pokemon Fan Designs Stunning Ancient Paradox Ho-Oh
Reddit user ABZ_Designs posted their stunning Paradox Ho-Oh artwork to the Pokemon subreddit. The design, illustrated in the style of classic Pokemon artist Ken Sugimori, gives Ho-Oh a pair of legs and significantly shrinks its normally massive wings, shifting it into a form reminiscent of a velociraptor. The user provides a new name for their ancient Ho-Oh, referring to it as Ho-Old, even giving it an exclusive signature Attack with Prism Flame and swapping Ho-Oh’s normal Flying typing for Dragon. The user even imagines a fictional Pokemon game for the new version of Ho-Oh, sharing logos for a fictional pair of Pokemon Valor and Pokemon Justice games.

The Paradox Ho-Oh was an instant hit with fans, with the poster adding more details about their design process in the comments. Among the many compliments about the stunning Ho-Oh artwork, the user shared their inspiration for the Ho-Oh re-design, basing the Pokemon on a prehistoric flightless bird called a Gastornis. The Reddit user also commented on the typing choice for Ho-Old, suggesting that Rock typing would have made the Ho-Oh seem more like a fossil Pokemon than a Paradox form. One fan asked about a potential future Paradox Lugia design, which the user suggested they were considering after some other personal projects and commissions.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A did not introduce any wholly new Pokemon to the series, but added Mega Evolutions for a plethora of popular Pokemon like Starmie, Victreebel, and Hawlucha, among others. The upcoming Pokemon Pokopia is introducing some special new variants for players to meet in their village, including Smearguru, Peakychu, and Mosslax. Pokemon fans are also expecting to get some big news about the franchise’s future soon.
Pokemon fans may not have to wait much longer to learn more about the franchise’s tenth generation with a big event on the way. The Pokemon Company will hold its official Pokemon Day livestream on February 27, expected to bring tons of news about the future of the series. Pokemon is heavily rumored to be sharing the first details about the leaked Pokemon Wind and Wave during the stream, with multiple leaks already emerging about the pair of games. Pokemon is set to kick off its 40th anniversary with a bang, with this year’s Pokemon Day likely being one of the most exciting yet.
