You can claim a massively popular MMO on Steam for free

Black Desert is also set to receive a new update introducing a new class

Long-running MMORPG Black Desert is currently free to claim on Steam. If you want to dive into all it has to offer at no cost, simply sign in to your Steam account and claim it by 3 a.m. EST on Dec. 18.

Black Desert is an expansive MMO with a variety of gameplay mechanics to engage with. You can relax with farming, fishing, cooking, horse training, and more professions. For something a little more fast-paced, Black Desert offers hack-and-slash combat as well as large-scale, siege-based PvP wars.

Black Desert first launched in Korea in 2015 for Windows PC, and today is available worldwide for PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well. A major update is on the way when a new class, Seraph, arrives Dec. 18. Developer Pearl Abyss describes Seraph as “Wielding a massive greatsword and equipped with both grab and guard capabilities,” and its combat theme will be “designed around light and shadow.”

A litany of other updates are coming to Black Desert as well. Some Monster Zones will be reformed, with several regions being turned into high-end farming zones. PvP systems will be overhauled with new territories, rules, and rewards. You can check out the full announcement for more.

Players who pre-register for Crimson Desert will receive free cosmetic rewards in Black Desert. Crimson Desert is an upcoming open-world adventure game that was originally intended to be a Black Desert prequel, but grew into becoming its own IP. It will be released on March 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
