Our patience will finally pay off. After months of waiting, the highly anticipated Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is out tomorrow, on April 15.
Even though the devs stated that BG3 will not get any major new content, ie, DLCs and expansions, that does not mean they can’t release new patches. Near the end of 2024, Larian said they are preparing a final major patch for the game, which will add more subclasses and some highly requested features to the game. After that, they will turn their attention to other projects. And now, after the long wait, Patch 8 is right around the corner.
Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 to Be Released Tomorrow, April 15
Even after two years, Baldur’s Gate 3 has a strong following and playerbase. But now, the last major update by Larian Studios is about to drop. Scheduled for April 15, the famous Patch 8 will add 12 new Subclasses (one for each Class):
- College of Glamour (Class: Bard)
- Path of Giants (Class: Barbarian)
- Death Domain (Class: Cleric)
- Circle of Stars (Class: Druid)
- Oath of the Crown (Class: Paladin)
- Arcane Archer (Class: Fighter)
- Drunken Master (Class: Monk)
- Swarmkeeper (Class: Ranger)
- Swashbuckler (Class: Rogue)
- Shadow Magic (Class: Sorcerer)
- Hexblade (Class: Warlock)
- Bladesinging (Class: Wizard)
These are all drawn from DnD 5e, with some being even older, like the Arcane Archer, Drunken Master, and the Swashbuckler, so we are certain they will add new ways to approach the game. With twelve of them, these will require at least a couple of new playthroughs to fully test out.
Besides the Subclasses, the highly requested Photo Mode feature will also be added. No longer will you be at the mercy of the in-game camera and the Screenshot button. Now you will be able to take the best photos of your Tav and the gang, for your phone wallpapers, thumbnails, and whatnot.
Lastly, BG3 will fully support crossplay and cross-progression, meaning that you can play with friends regardless of what platforms they all have, and the progression will be saved to your account without different platforms making a fuss about it.
This patch will truly be a game-changer, albeit a little bittersweet. It’s great to hype up, but knowing that this is the last official update does make it all a bit sad. Thankfully, the Modders are pretty active, and even though there will be no official update, we have some pretty cool Mods to look forward to, like the Curse of Strahd campaign, or the “expansion” to Act 2. Things are not that bleak, after all.
