‘Absolutely Useless’ Battlefield 6 Players Aren’t Happy With 1 Gadget in Particular

Gamers playing Battlefield 6 have come together to express their frustration with the portable mortar, which is one of the final unlocks players gain access to at level 49. Battlefield 6 was released on October 10 and is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The Battlefield Comms team recently announced that players can expect to see some big changes coming to Battlefield 6 alongside the California Resistance update on November 18. Once the update releases, players should see a difference in weapon bloom, as the developers are making tuning changes to improve the feel of guns at longer ranges. In addition, the developers are making some changes to the way aim assist functions that should bring it closer to the way it worked during the open beta. While many fans were happy to hear about the fixes, there are plenty of other changes players would like to see as well.

Battlefield 6 Players Think the Portable Mortar Is Bad

In a recent post on Reddit, SHARPxSHOOTER claimed that they had just recently unlocked the portable mortar, which is only usable by Battlefield 6‘s Support class. Unfortunately, they weren’t very impressed, as they declared the gadget was “absolutely useless.” SHARPxSHOOTER shared several complaints, with the first one being that the portable mortar shells spent way too long in the air before striking the target. They also complained that the damage of the high-explosive shells was “basically non-existent” and the spread was too large. They did say that the gadget was fun to use, but didn’t feel as if they were actually providing any kind of meaningful support for their team.

This isn’t the first time the gadget has failed to impress the community, as Battlefield 6‘s portable mortar faced similar criticism after a viral video caught the attention of players. In that case, gamers were specifically complaining about the smoke shells that can be used to obscure the battlefield, potentially allowing allies to move forward while remaining out of sight. Unfortunately, the smoke cloud created by the mortar underwhelmed many of the people who used it, as they felt the size of the smoke cloud didn’t provide much of an advantage at all. SHARPxSHOOTER mentioned the smoke shells as well, claiming that they dissipated far too quickly and didn’t create as much cover as a smoke grenade.

Other players were quick to agree, advising gamers to avoid using the portable mortar, as there are better Support loadouts available in Battlefield 6. However, some people stated that the portable mortar really shines when more than one person is using it to support a team. Coordinated strikes from multiple mortars could potentially disrupt an enemy team more effectively than an individual mortar. Even with this strategy, a lot of fans seemed to agree that it could use a damage boost. Despite a few hiccups here and there, many gamers appear to be enjoying their time with Battlefield 6 and feel it has a bright future.
