After a successful launch weekend, Pokopia has become one of the best-selling Pokémon spin-offs ever

It is fair to say Nintendo’s new Animal Crossing-like Pokémon Pokopia has had a pretty darn successful launch.

Earlier today, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company revealed Pokopia sold 2.2m copies across Switch 2 over its release weekend, cementing its place as one of the best-selling Pokémon spin-off games ever, and in just four days.

We can assume sales figures will be higher now that a few more days have passed since its release, though some countries have reported supply limitations for the physical version of Pokémon Pokopia.

As for where those 2.2m sales Pokémon Pokopia made, 1m of them were in Nintendo’s home country of Japan. The game has become so popular that Nintendo’s share price recently got a significant boost, after months of it seeing a downward trend.

This success is well deserved, with many of us here at Eurogamer rather taken with Pokémon Pokopia (though, I spent far too much time manually watering the world with my Squirtle powers, only to later discover it would eventually rain and do all that for me).

We recently awarded the game four stars. “Pokopia succeeds in capturing the spirit of Pokémon’s past without sacrificing its uniqueness, as one of the best spin-offs the franchise has ever seen,” our Lottie wrote in Eurogamer’s Pokémon Pokopia review.
